We enjoy breeding new dahlias!
The bloom had some very large leaves and one judge said that it ought to be named "Dumbo". The form is very good but not as good as AC Rooster for example. The purple color is this blooms greatest asset.

In our first year seedling patch, a large(9inches in diameter) deep purple semi cactus is blooming and I let out a very loud "Wow" when I saw it today. I am going to take it's picture tomorrow morning. Purple is a very hard color to breed. Gordon Leroux of Kenora fame told us that he had a goal of breeding a large or giant purple bloom that he could name after his wife. He died and that goal was not fulfilled.
We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden.
