Health Issues forum: Facing Mammary Tumors

My 8 year old Afghan Sammi was diagnosed with bilateral mammary tumors. She is scheduled for surgery on 11/11. At this point, the vet is going to remove the largest first. If everything goes well, and there is enough tissue left intact, he will remove the tumors from the other side, too. Otherwise we will have to wait until this first side heals, before having the second side done. X-rays show that it hasn't metastasized, so that's good news. I'm very concerned about the anesthesia, since I lost my other 8 year old to complications from anesthesia during dental work in August.

I've lost a dog to mammary cancer, and I've had tumors come back as benign.

Has anyone had any experience with this in their dogs?
