Echinacea Photos forum: Quirky Echinacea stems in the Evening

A few years ago I was startled to see the young flower stems on my hybrid echinaceas as well as those on Echinacea tennisseensis curl down late in the evening. The stems were still quite stiff and turgid and not at all limp. The next day they were all straight up again. I since learned that some echinaceas are heliotropic so I don't worry anymore. Since I thought it was kind of interesting, I posted daytime and late evening photos.

Hi Tabby your plants look nice. Not sure what causes it but mine seem to only do it in hot weather and like you said are fine the next morning.So I figure a reaction to to much sun or a want of water.

I'm retired Fishing is my job.
I think it's called transpiration. My plants do that sometimes in the evening. I don't worry about it.
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore looking like an idiot.
