I received a message from Santa Rosa Gardens today that my order has shipped minus 2 that won't be ready for another month or 6 weeks. It's like Christmas in April! Big Grin

Happy Christmas in April. Post a picture when you get them. Growing season is finally coming around. I have not ordered any flowers nor planted one single seed yet.

Hope they are nice. I have started quite a few seeds but have yet to order any plants. Would like to get a couple of different Mayapples but they are so expensive.

Wow, that's a bunch!

Most of my plants seem to have come back. I had so many echs it's hard to tell yet. I think I did lose my favorite yellow/ gold one that I started from seed.

There are no signs of life yet from my little crepe myrtle but it has done that before and fooled me. I hope it's not a goner as I love that shrub.

Kansas Bob, looks like you'll be gettng a bunch of nice coneflowers in the mail. The Meadow Mama one should be really good if it comes out like the pictures. Santa Rosa Gardens described it as pink petals with white tips. A lot of other people must have liked it too for it is sold out at Santa Rosa Gardens.

I googled the Kismet ones. http://www.terranovanurseries.com/products/echinacea-kismet-...
Maybe they are working on getting these coneflowers to overwinter better.

NJ Bob, I googled Mayapples. They look like weeds. According to the Internet they are grown in Missouri. I maybe have seen them along the country roads and thought they were weeds.

Vicki it is the Chinese Mayapples that I want some of.
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=spotty ... is one I have, waiting to see if it overwintered.

These are a few I would like but go in the area of 40 to 90 dollars each.
I like them mixed with ferns.

Just hoping that at some time the prices come down. The one I have at one time cost that much , but had come down to 20 dollars when I bought it.

I placed my order in January when they offered 30% off for pre-orders then I added another one when their discount went to 35% on $50 and ended up getting a free Kismet Raspberry n/c. While I started out with 5 I ended up with 7. Gosh, there are so many new beautiful ones but the cost is just too much to bear. Even SR isn't less expensive anymore. They and New Garden Plants are about the same price and shipping is really close too. Great Garden Plants ships quarts vs. 3.5" from SR. However by taking advantage of early ordering I saved a lot of money. Now I hope that the plants are high quality. Tomorrow I'll find out.

I hope that your crepe myrtle does come back. Those are so pretty.
re: my order from SR, I only started out with 5 but that grew to 7 when I added one to take advantage of a greater discount on a $50 order and I got a free bonus plant Kismet Raspberry therefore I ended up with 7. They're all compact plants and should do well in a large pot. It seems that with the Sombrero series that they're developing a hardier plant as these are rated to -25. I'll overwinter them in my garage to be safe. Now, if the quality of this years plants is good then I'll be happy.

All seem to be healthy and even one has 2 buds on it. That brings up the question of whether to allow them to bloom the first year or pinch the buds and develop the plant. My dilemma is that in past years I've lost many plants over the winter and if I pinch off the first year buds then I'll have nothing to show for my money. What have you done?

They all arrived in good shape and very little potting mix was spilled since SRG changed their shipping packaging. Used to they put elastic netting around the pots but now it's a lightweight paper/plastic shroud that does a much better job of keeping the plants from losing their soil. All in all a big improvement from previous orders. I'm happy with my order.

I haven't ordered from them in a few years. I didn't know they'd changed the packaging. I liked the old one, though.

They look good, hope they do well. It is best not to let them flower, but we all do for the reason you said we want to see at least one flower in case they do not make it.

The mesh was too open for my liking and my plants lost a lot of potting mix so I'm happy with the change. This shipment was far better than previous ones.. I always had trouble removing the mesh.
