I'm starting to think that there is some kind of problem with the way Terra Nova propagates their Echinacea plants from tissue culture. Their plants seem to be stunted and weak when you buy them. Maybe they are pushing them to produce too many clones in the lab too soon. They definitely need to work on the branching of their varieties. I stopped buying them because they were so consistently bad.
