THINGS I WOULD CARE NOT TO GET
Please don't send seeds that are not on my wish list.
Don't feel sorry for me, because I might send in a lot of seeds. I hate it to waste seeds.
I joined this swap again, because it brings me distraction.
So please don't send me seeds I will never plant. If you think you have seeds that really interests me, please c-mail me.

A BIT ABOUT MY GARDEN
At the moment it's half weed, half plants, haha.

MY 2014 SEED SOWING JOURNAL AND NOTES SECTION
http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/80661/?offset=340

It's taken me about 3 years to learn how to grow mushrooms in my very arid climate. I've had best success with logs about 6" to 8" in diameter. I think that's because they hold onto moisture better. The air is so dry here that I get much better fruiting if I stick them in a closed up humid greenhouse.

Button mushrooms are a bit immature to be shedding spores. I suppose that they could be chopped up and used as inoculant. I only grow in non-sterile conditions, so I don't worry about contamination. A spore-print could be taken from Portobello mushrooms and used as inoculant.

The same thing can be done with other store-bought mushroom species, though they are rare in my local grocery stores, but once in a while I see Oyster mushrooms, or Enoki.

I have read that conifers have resins in the wood that interfere with mushroom growth, so I avoid those. I have had oyster mushrooms fruit on mulberry, aspen, poplar, and cherry. I just inoculated some alder logs and a couple bales of straw. I expect them to grow well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I collected some spores in a glass dish by setting freshly picked mushrooms into the dish for a day or two.
Thumb of 2014-12-23/joseph/c47fa9

Then suspended the spores in a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide and poured it over logs and straw bales.
Thumb of 2014-12-23/joseph/962ea4

I drilled holes in the larger logs and poured the solution into the holes.
Thumb of 2014-12-23/joseph/f57469

Mmmmm. Mmmmmm. Mmmmm.
Thumb of 2014-12-23/joseph/901ec7 zie 2014 seedswapchatter #4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the research I just finished, it looks like mushroom spores remain viable for years. So, just in case mushroom spores show up in anyone's feeding trough....

I recommend adding about 30 ml water, and leave the label in the bag, and shake it, and let it sit overnight before dumping the solution/paper out onto whatever substrate you are inoculating. The spores are not sterile, so I recommend using them only for outdoor grows. Planting at the beginning of rainy weather is highly recommended.

To give the mushrooms an extra boost of nutrients and antibiotics: 1 ml of molasses and 1 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide may be added to the water before adding to the spores.
