Note on the two purple zinnias - "Purple Prince" and 'Lilac Queen". I got the original seeds for each from nbgard in last year's swap. I assume they were open pollinated seeds. I "spring sowed" each in a different soda bottle and planted each variety in groups in different parts of the garden via the "clump of seed" method. Cut blooms of each look identical - color, shape, size. The prince was a bit taller and the queen produced more flowers. I am growing both again next year out of curiosity, but without labels they would be hard to tell apart.. I wouldn't be surprised if different seed vendors gave different names to the same variety of zinnia. Several people requested both - I don't want anyone to be disappointed.

ABOUT MY GARDEN
I live in the Pocono mountains - zone 6a on most maps.

My main garden bed is mostly roses. I am trying to achieve a cottage look with more companion plants. I love antique and Austin roses as well as hardy hybrid teas.

I love to cook and want to grow more herbs. My garden space is taken by roses and flowers. I have some ornamental veggies and herbs filled in plus veggies in containers. I also have lettuce and assorted greens in window boxes.

My back porch faces north, in the shade of a tall fence and black walnut trees. I have a tiger garden here with hostas, ferns and orange and/or black flowered plants mainly tiger lilies with orange milkweed and black hollyhocks from last year's swap (which haven't flowered yet). Orange and/or black juglone and shade tolerant plants are welcome.

Some of the neighborhood kids like to "help" me garden play with Winston the pug. I don't have children and like their company. They LOVE when I share seeds with them. Our country needs more gardeners and less gang members. Maybe I am helping in a small way.
