Characteristics of Plant
A charming perennial herb with medicinal purposes that blooms in May. Hypoxis hirsuta is a native wildflower in a lot of areas.

Leaves of the plant are hairy, which helps to identify it from grass when not in bloom. So becareful when mowing.

This short stature plant reaches of heights from 4" to 8", with yellow star-shaped flowers.

The plant forms corms that can eaily be divided in the spring or fall. If let be, the corms will form small colonies of tufted looking grass as the leaves fan out from the base of the plant.

While it does produce seed, the seeds are very tiny, hard to collect and very oily to handle. Division of the corms is best.
