Common Name: Calla Lily, Arum Lily Family: Araceae Genus: Zantedeschia Species: aethiopica Cultivar or Variety: Giant White
Characteristics of Plant
NOTICE: This plant is poisonous to dogs and cats.
This beautiful Calla Lily makes a stunning border plant that is resistant to deer and other rodents. May also be grown in containers or beds.
The plant can over time, have bloom stalks reaching up to 4'. The older the plant, the wider and taller it will grow.
A yellow inflorescence is surrounded by a white spathe. It makes a great cut flower not only for arrangements, but also for weddings.
Seed is fairly easy to start, but it is best to sow in the winter time. Sow seed 1/4" deep in moist potting soil, barely cover and keep warm for germination. When outdoor soils have warmed up to 60F seedlings can be transplanted outside. Do not over water seedlings or plant, as rot may occur, but under watering can lead to stress and low bloom rate and disease too.
