Ella's Garden Plants from A to Z: Felicia heterophylla, Blues Blue Daisy

Common Name: Blues Blue Daisy

Family: Asteraceae

Genus: Felicia

Species: heterophylla

Characteristics of Plant
Looking for a bright true blue plant? Blues Blue is one of the few true blue plants there are. This daisy like flowering plant from the Aster family has 1" sky-blue flowers with darker blue centers held above the foliage.

The plant with flowers ranges from 8 to 12" in height. The lacy foliage is low growing. It is a grayish-green color and is heavily scented.

This native plant from South Africa, once established, is fairly drought tolerant and will thrive in most types of soil. It will grow in full sun or full sun to part shade, but to keep the plant flowering all summer, dead-head regularly. The flowering stems are long enough to use Blues Blue as a cutting flower.

This plant looks stunning in a mass planting. It also works well in hanging baskets and containers.

While butterflies and bees are attracted to this plant, rabbits are not.
