THIS SWAP NOW CLOSED TO NEW PARTICIPANTS. HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT YEAR. IN THE MEANTIME FELL FREE TO EXPLORE THE FORUMS HERE IN EG. Whether your a new participant or a returning Piggy... Welcome to this years HOG WILD SWAP. Also, affectionately known as the Piggy Swap too. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a seed swap that has been going on for many years. It is held once a year and runs for a month. This annual event is a chance for folks to trade harvested seed, leftover seed hanging around, unused or leftover trade seeds. It is a chance to clean out your seed boxes and fridges, and fill them up with new treasures! ![]() Everyone is welcome to join. Folks from other forums or sites, are welcome to join in here too. You will need to click the "Join" this cubit button located on right side of page or bottom and become a member to participate. We have two groups of folks in this swap. We have what is known as the "Regular folks" and the "Survivor folks." Regular folks are those that may returning participants or newbies joining this year that have some seed to offer to others and want to get seed too. Surviors are those folks who have survived from disasters such as fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, other natural disaster this past year of which there were alot. The regular folks on this swap are a generous group and every year they have opened their hearts and shared the bounty of their seeds and experience to those less fortunate. Survivors are invited to join in for free. No seeds, no postage necessary. You will receive from the generosity of the regular swap people free seeds to rebuild your gardens. You do need to play and pick right along with the regular folks though. Also, you are in the survivor group, you need to let us know when you sign up. Just when you sign up, post your a survivor. Last year over 14,000 packets of seeds that were shared and distributed between all participants. If your in the Regular Piggy Group, you can post below your joining and proceed to the Hog Wild Seed Swap Database and start getting set up. HERE You can look around and see how other folks have set theirs up, or make your own way. If you need help just holler. You can put your list up all at once or just a few things at a time. The choice is yours, but if your in the regular group, you must have some seed listed before you will be allowed to oink from others, even if it is just a few types of seeds. If your in the Survivor Group, you will still need to go to the same link above and get your name posted and fill out the Wishlist Part and the section about your garden area. In essence, what happens is you will make a wishlist of seeds you would like to get,if possible, also you will be listing seeds you have to offer to folks, and in exchange you will be asking ( more like oinking) for seeds you see on other peoples list. Some folks have lots of seeds to share, some folks just a few and that is fine. Some folks are new to gardening and saving or even buying and growing. Unless you specifically state you only want the seeds you oinked for, all participants will be receiving back at minimum of 100 packets of assorted types seed. This is a fun time, a time to make new friends, laugh, share, joke, and share growing experiences through the winter and have a chance to try and grow new things. ![]() If your interested in maybe joining it this year, please go ahead and start putting your name down here. If possible, please try and remember to put Regular or Survivor too. No biggy if ya forget. There will be a cut -off of regular members I just not sure of what the number will be yet. Me me me me! I think my list is final now: http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/db/hogwildseedswap/view/92888/ I don't have a lot to offer, so I won't ask for a lot either. But I'm excited nonetheless! |

Bit Bit... it doesn't matter that you only have a few things to offer. That is one of the nice things about this swap. Everybody playing gets to go up to at least `100 packets of seed coming back. I am sitting here chuckling to myself. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm sure I'll do fine as a piggy. I have limited space and a specific interest (I really only grow edibles), so I think my oinking will be moderate... but I'm glad to hear I won't be alone if I oink way more than I expected. ![]() |
|

I have to cmail Tuink too and let her know it time again. Not sure if she back home yet or not. |
|

I'm in Ella Bit don't forget to oink for some seeds for the bees. You don't want them to go hungry while waiting on your edibles do you? ![]() ![]() |

Count me in! I've been a-waiting for the fun to begin! Whoopee, it's Piggy Time again! ![]() I have perhaps half of my seeds collected - haven't even begun this year's lists yet, but I'll get 'er done soon. The stats and reports from seeds I grew out from last year's swap will take the most time, I'd imagine. Most of the results are very favorable. ![]() Good to hear from you again, Ella! You're missed when you're away. ![]() |

I'd sure like to participate again this year... Got my database mostly updated, but I keep finding lots of clever new seeds to collect and add. I harvested cactus seeds today, blended them up, and am fermenting them for a few days. I"m definitely in. Won't be oinking for too much since I am still awash in seeds from last year ![]() Just have to get myself to be more organized this year. Now that I have one year's worth of seed sowing experience, I should up my 10% success rate ![]() |

Ciao all- Put me down on the list, Ella. Can I just thank you one more time for starting this swap in the middle of November? Oh my goodness, it's just nuts right now putting the garden to rest. I'm just about done collecting seeds except for the really hardy types. I got my Pineapple Sage Jelly made..2 batches this year because the plant did so well. It's always a race to see if I get enough flowers before frost. And we did get frost overnight on Thursday. I think most, if not all, of the Nasturtiums are done for now. I got 36 tomato plants pulled yesterday. It's starting to look a little sad and barren out there but I've only just started pulling plants. I'll post that recipe as soon as I can take a breath. Joseph, I might be asking you for Dakota Black Popcorn. Have a look and see if you've got any of that. Mine was a complete crop failure this year because of all that heat we got. I think I may only have about 5 seeds left. Your Oaxacan Green Dent will go to the fair, so I'll let you know how that does. I've got to drop the corn and squash over there on Monday. Diamond, the community garden I'm in is affiliated with the local university here. It's for students, staff, and family members of both. I like that aspect of it as I feel like I can really contribute as a teaching resource for the students there. Grazie a tutti, Julianna |
