We came from here : Chat thread #24 http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/64109/ and Last Chance thread: http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/65010/ and why are we coming to this thread now???? ![]() Why because it Piggy Party Time that why. The barn been all cleaned and spruced up for ya. So I hope ya got your Sunday best clothes on, and spit polished your hoofs. Party would have started earlier, but about the time I wa sgetting things ready, we lost power. First of all a few rules. Wipe your hoofs before entering. I know some of ya have been out rolling in the snow and mud and probably some unmentionable, smelly stuff. ![]() No drooling on the floor . Spittoons are scattered around in very discrete places if ya need to wipe the snot off your snouts. No picking, scratching private areas in public. Now, no pushing and shoving to get in the door. Come on in and grab a bale a hay, before we get this part a rolling gotta give a small speech. Wanna get the oh-oh's ![]() ![]() First, Mindy and Andi... I apologize. Your boxes not gonna go out til tomorrow. Got the neighbor to help me load quick trying to beat out the worst of the storms and your two boxes got left behind under one of the tables. I was in such a hurry to get on the road, didn't notice y got left behind til I got back. I so sorry, weather to bad to go back out today, so will get ya on the road tomorrow. Just don't expect another party tomorrow. ![]() ![]() The other not so good news, I always seem to forget something and while I did remember to take the stuff out of fridge and freezer. Thankyou Misti. I forgot to toss out one of the bags that was sitting on bedroom dresser. I had ya all send me 5 choices, so I could go through and take your top pick or second or third or whichever number so everybody could have a few of the seeds Tuink sent. Well, I forgot them. If ya really want that one packet of seeds, cmail me and don't be afraid too and I'll put them in a letter and mail out, other wise will just save the seed for next swap. Like I said, I try to do the best I can to fill your boxes. Some of you be glad I am a collector as you had some really off the wall wishes and I just happened to have some stock of them. But, if you have problem with your box, don't be afraid to say something to me. If ya have any suggestions, or complaints cmail me with them too. Last years complaint/ suggestion made it possible for the newbies and brand new traders to participate this year and not get lost in the stampede. Ok, I guess that all the things I can think of for the moment. Opps, no wait one more. Ya all gonna have the most stamp decorate d boxes ever. Guess with the new postage rate increases the Po's getting ready of all their old stamps and so instead of one nice price sticker, they putting tons of stamps on the boxes. Just thought I would let ya know. Alrighty it time to get this party started!!!!!!! Get them tails a wiggling, get them hoofs a stomping, cuz the piggies have flown. WHOOOOOOO_HOOOOOOOOOOOO ![]() ![]() ![]() Here this years tale. Sorry the pics so bad, and so few, but it dark and cloudy out and roads are too dangerous to try and take pics and drive safely at same time. But here goes: It was about October and this here mama sow was out enjoying the cool breezes that was coming through the trees when all of a sudden she realized it was way to quiet and that soon fall and winter would be here and that meant piggy swap time. So she sent out a snort or two, and did a shuffle dance or jig and sent out the call that started rounding up piglets. First one came, than two, and low and behold, soon the quiet was filled with noise from piggies coming from all over to try and squeeze themselves into the barn to get stocked up on food for the winter. They came from far and wide. One even came wearing a sign that said NEED SEED . She was so in need of food her ribs was a showing. Well, I happy to say, she nice and plum now. Amazing what good food will do to ya in a few weeks. ![]() Well, the roll was called and all in all everybody was accounted for. Even those that got lost and strayed for a bit were eventually found. This mamma keeps and eye on her piggies. When she not around, the babysitters did an excellent job. ![]() Well, them thar piggies got themselves some vittles. They all started out with their own feed bucket. ![]() 'Course I had to keep moving them all around as more and more piggies joined the buffet. Elbow to elbow. Snot to snot and not one piggy yelled, " Don't touch me" ![]() ![]() ![]() and now it time to turn them loose to go back home. I didn't want somebody taking a wrong turn past New Jersey, so I gave them all a little help. Bring on the Piggy Mobile!!!!!!!!!!! Time to hit the road!!!!!!! Oh, No! Wait!!!!!!!!! Where is the piggy mobile. Well, it probably somebody's coke can by now or roll of aluminum foil by now or 6,000 pounds of bacon. ![]() It snorted, it belched, it threw rods and pistons and flywheels and just made the worsest noises I ever heard than rolled over and died. So what I gonan do, gotta get these piggies on the road. I been good and have abstained from eating pork for months and now these piggies are looking to much like pork roast, pork chops and pork fritters. Can ya tell I hungry for pork yet???? ![]() Well, being the resourceful mamma I am, I think ahhhhhhh haaaaaaaaaaa , So I run and get the famous yellow pages. ![]() I let my fingers do the walking through the yellow pages, ( famous telephone book here for those long haulers) and what do I find?????? Hot diggiggty dog. Opps, sorry ![]() ![]() ![]() Yep , the taxi service. Well, let's see at 4.50 a mile and 80 miles if I go to Po in town that??????? Well, what ever it is , it ain't happening. next best thing, call the neighbor for rent- a car. One piggy mobile has arrived. ![]() Dang, pouring rain and no back seat. Ok, everybody pile up in the front. No pushing and shoving now. Just pile on top of each other, but keep your elbows and knee bones to yourself. No fighting over the window seat either. Last one in shut the door. We ready to hit the road. Nope wait gotta run back and get the important stuff. Sheesh almost forgot. #1. My cup of coffee. Gotta have it, this mamma don't move her tush without it and second. From last year, the hood ornament that Ridesmules made that proves piggies can fly. ![]() Cool, looks real good on this rent a hog. How do I know it a working truck, well just look at what in the bed. Three bags full. At first I thought one of ya all busy busy passing gas and was abotu to open the window and air things out. Peeuuuuu. Wet manure. Where's a close pin when ya need one. ![]() OK, everybody, no tails hanging out, no windmills allowed. ( Amercican commercial for car insurance with piggy yelling wheeeeeeee for miles) Heck didn't get far down the road , already a sign telling me to: ![]() Ain't no way, I on a mission. Whoever throwing jujubees, please stop. Kepp your bubble gum in your mouth and quit blowing bubbles before ya get it all in somebody's hair. No you cna not use my coffee cup to pee in. Ya should of went before we left home. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ok, ok, here ya go. Old barn with some sunlight coming through slats. You can go there, but hurry up. Hummmmmmm, ice cream palor next door, sign says. "all toppings, no charge." I wondered how they been getting rid of all the waste from the pits stops folks make. Think I'll pass on the cones today. ![]() ![]() Finally, we are back on the road. ![]() Finally... finally.. what do my wandering eyes see? The po? Nope no such luck yet. What I see is ... ![]() The speed limit sign. Ain't know way I gonna go that slow. The piggies just to excited. Freedom to be on their own is just a few miles away. Ahhhhh-haaaaaaaaaa just what I been waiting for the sign announcing the PO is right ahead. ![]() The trick is now to try and get everybody out of the truck and into the po without somebody falling in a mud puddle and heading to ya all with dirt smudges, but somehow we manage it. Oh, look, it 's your friendly Po workers, just waiting for them boxes to jump on the counter and weigh in. Yes, a few of them are grunting and moaning at having to jump that high, but everybody makes it. ![]() Well, everybody gets stamped and now loaded into the Po's piggy mobile. I have a tear in my eye as I say goodbye to all them boxes and wish them good luck and happy sprouting in their new homes. Bye-bye little babies. ![]() Time to negotiate the drive home through the rain. Back home and looking at the mess of empty boxes that need to be broken down and taken up to trash. ![]() Only one thing left to do. The piggies are flying, time now to hang the piggy mobile hood ornament back up in it's spot where it will hang til next year. Night- Night Piggies! Happy traveling. ![]() ![]() |

Ella, you are a flying Piggy Angel! You jump through hoops and over tall buildings to keep your piglets fat and happy. THANK YOU!!! Holy Moly, 80 miles to the Post Office?? Yikes. I guess there are some advantages to living near big cities. You jump over tall buildings AND over the river and through the woods! Now I'm going to go run circles around my mail slot until the Post Lady shows up. Then the wallowing begins! ![]() |

Ella, SO glad that you're okay! ![]() What with all the wind that's been coming from down your way one could almost believe those piggy parcels could fly home without benefit of the postal service....hmmmm......'course they'd be a bit bedraggled now, wouldn't they? Having seen some of the storm damage in the (normally) lovely state of Alabama, I'm really kinda surprised that you managed to get them on their way. I should have known better than to have entertained a thought like that! You always find a way to come through for us! ![]() My heart goes out to the folks caught in the path of those storms. |

Sandy... Sure no problem posting the link. ATP is our sister site and hey a good deal is a good deal. The only ones I delete are ones where it some off the wall company that a spammer type company. I love glads myself, but until I get the under ground critter I have gone, ain't no way I planting a bunch of bulbs in the ground. I watched something munch through 500 glad bulbs and a huge bed of Dahlias. ![]() Hey Joseph, was watching The Bachelor last night and they was all at think it was called State Park or maybe it was Park State Utah. Boy that was some lovely country. All those beautiful mountains covered in green and beautiful streams or small rivers. You anywhere near the place? In a few minutes soon as I get enough coffee in me, gonna start cmailing folks with confirmation numbers that way ya all can try and see when they arriving and not be going out in such nasty weather. Especially those folks in the cold and ice. |
Sandy, I hope you remember that piggy in your bed's name this morning. Some of us are still at the bar celebrating. ![]() Congratulations Ella, on completing this massive undertaking! Alana |

Did manage to remember fridge and freezer. Thanks for reminding me all the time. Oh I know what I forgot. Them little packages of bubblets. They didn't make it. Took them out to send and the sprouts had died and they was all covered with the starts of mold. I sorry. I tried to keep them going. ![]() |

Anybody got a good recipe for making Kosher Dill pickles? There is the recipe on the back of the box, but it just doesn't taste as good as the ones ya buy in the store in the big jars. The box recipe missing that omph that makes ya go ahhhhhhhhhhh and have two or three more. |
Kosher Dills 4 pounds cucumber, 2-4" long 3 1/2 TBS pickling salt 1 1/2 TBS mustard seeds 3 cups water 3 cups white vinegar (but I substitute a homemade herbal vinegar sometimes) 6 Bay leaves 6 cloves garlic (probably the most important ingredient for can't stop eatability ![]() 6 fresh dill heads or 1 1/2 TBS dill seeds This is a canning recipe....if ya want to cheat you can save the juice from the store bought pickles and add your own cukes to it, (after presoaking them in the pickling salt, of course;>) You may however, just be missing the taste of the preservatives and flavor enhancers. We get so used to them that when we eat foods without them (like homemade chicken broth, or what-have-you), they no longer taste "right". |
Anybody started some seed in just the vermiculite yet? Just wondering how that coming along. I really worried about trying to start some ws of tomatoes. Whole month supposed to be up and downs and tons of rain and more tornadoes than normal. It rough living in this in between zones where it seems it never hot or cold long enough. |
Chelle.. How do make a homemade herbal vinegar. Never even thought about being able to make your own. You may have a good point. Our tastebuds are more or less held captive by the processing plants. |
Thanks again Ella "for everthin'". As always, really enjoyed the ride to the PO! I haven't started any wintersowing yet, but plan on doing all my french marigolds in the vermiculite in the house as soon as the seeds get here. It's my understanding they need 70 degrees to germinate and I want to get the plants into my nematode bed as they can handle it. It is so frustrating having this wonderful bed that I can't use right now! So excited about the arrival this week! Tonya |
