Rick those seed spoons look very useful. I have a hard time planting one seed at a time unless the seeds are huge. the zip locks are better than walmarts, so far. |
|
|||
I think I'll order 2,000 Ziplocks and be ready for a few years of trading. I always feel like a drug dealer suspect when I go through the line at Wal-Mart with 500 Ziplocs in my cart! By the end of the year in WA state, we'll need a license to do that! Once I heard about the design of those seed spoons, I started thinking about making my own with a slip cut from a tin can or brass from a cartridge. Cut 'em, grind off sharp edges, dent a little dimple in it, glue it to a wooden dowel ... Then I decided I could splurge $3.50 ... and it was an excuse to ... guess what ... buy more seeds. Like I NEED any more seeds after this swap! ![]() |

Got my 3 seeds I wintersowed of Versicolor Lupine leafing out! (I cheated... they were on the mudporch in little dixiecups with saran over them... now they're under my lights, with a very spindley looking Family Jewels sprout that is ahead of the other early starts. CC |

I hope Ella doesn't mind a bit of promotion here, but I'm trying to bring my Cubit out of its winter hibernation. If anyone (urban or otherwise) is looking for a place to chat edibles, feel free to pop over! http://cubits.org/urbanfarm Of course, I'll still be around Ella's Garden as well. Wouldn't want to miss my piggy friends ![]() |

Bitbit, I learn something new from you (and others here) all the time! I had no clue I could replant my romaine stumps. I'll sure be trying that soon! Circles of Support for Breast Cancer I'm learning to dance in the rain! Thank you, Sally & Chris & Sharon. |

Speaking of Ella, I've really missed her chatting here this year! Has anyone heard how she is doing and if her computer is on the road to recovery or replacement? Did she survive all the seed tossing she did in January? |

Hey, hey, Hey, Ask and ye shall receive Jill. LOL! : ) Just ran up to neighbors for a minute to check and make sure that Kwilds had gotten her box and see if Tcs was ready for hers, and any word on Sorellina. Just so much going on right now between my Dad and son and my health that I haven't been able to get to a puter. I have been finally able to get a few things sowed and popped up. Having the dickens of a time trying to keep a couple of teeny tiny seedlings from croaking. Whoever it was, think it was BitBit. Rudbeckias, take a long time sometimes. I have had mine sowed for two weeks or better now and they still refuse to show their faces. The weather here is so crazy. One minute it sunburn weather and the next we actually had snow. Yep not like you guys up north, but anytime we get snow down here folks go wild. As the weather warms up, becareful. Remember to wear those hats and sunscreen. Oh and don't forghet the lip balm. Wind and sun this past weekend and I got sunburn and blkistered swollen lips. Hurts like the dickens, but some folks enjoying my misery as I can hardly tal;k. hehehehehe |

Kwilds posted on March 5th that she had received her seeds: http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view_post/955367/ I have not heard from Sorellina. ![]() |

Does anyone know if there is a particular way to sow zinnia seeds? You know, like the dahlia seeds. I've planted a few like dahlia seeds, but it is really tedious to handle just one seed at a time, when you are doing so many. lol |

Txbabybloomer wrote:Does anyone know if there is a particular way to sow zinnia seeds? I truly just toss mine in and cover them up. ![]() I'm so excited! While the rest of my world is still pretty much frozen, the first of my outdoor seeds have sprouted! Sedum 'Lizard'...thanks, Christine! ![]() |

That's why I not only don't mind chaff with zinnia seeds, I actually like it... helps me spread the seeds around in the garden. I either rake them in lightly or just step on them to be sure they have good contact with moist soil. I'm pretty sure they'll sprout whether they're planted up, down, or sideways!
