evidently there is a media black out on the 40 tons of GMO sugar beets that were burned by activists in oregon a few days ago.

Personally, I applaud anyone that takes this kind of action (old 60s protesters never die) because maybe something will get done

I am glad Monsanto is being called out for the world food prize, but incredibly sadden to see the actual numbers for the loss of life of the farmers in India.
http://naturalsociety.com/world-leaders-denounce-monsanto-ex...

In addition, they write that the practices by these companies in getting farmers to subscribe to their devastating philosophy is making it even more difficult for such farmers to make a living. In India, for example, 270,000 farmers committed suicide between 1995 and 2012 to get out from under debt accumulated by purchasing these high-dollar seeds and chemicals.

I was under the impression that the only way to buy GM seeds was to be large enough to buy farm-sized batches of commercial seed and sign agreements.

At least, as of a year or two ago, no mail-order company anywhere COULD sell genetically modified seeds with our without our knowledge, because Monsanto would not sell to them for retail resale.

And as far as I know, that's still true.

Also I never heard of any GM flowers, only commercial field crops like corn and soy (and several others).

Sometimes there seems to be confusion about the distinction between GM seeds and anything sold by anybody who sells anything from a company affiliated with Monsanto or Syngenta.

I think the way they are 'cornering the market" on some commercial crops and reducing the biodiversity of those is terrible. The way their pollen escapes and contaminates seed crops is terrible and should be criminal. If their army of lawyers could be certified herbicide-free, I might waish they couold all be composted.

But just because some seed vendor wants to keep some non-GM hybrid variety available to his customers, and Syngenta is the only vendor of that hybrid, does not mean that the seed vendor sells any GM seeds.

He couldn't sell any GM seeds even if he wanted to, unless something has changed a lot in the last few months.

sometimes GM seeds are inadvertent, but mainly we are boycotting and GM seed companies. Monsanto owns alot of seed companies and just because his tomato seeds aren't GM I'm not gonna support him as his Corn and soy seeds are. Not to mention he is buying up as many of the Heirloom seed companies that he can so he can alter them and patent them.

I agree, Monsanto is buying up companies at an alarming rate, not to sell their seeds, but to eliimate any competition. seems like they want to be the only seed choice around. Also, they may only sell commercially, but lots of seed companies buy commercial lots and repackage and sell under their own name.
