Just had a chance to read the NPR link up above on the chicken nuggets and chicken noodle soup. Agggg! Glad that got posted. No more nuggets for this person and just finished last can of chicken noodle soup in cupboard and was thinking on getting more for winter. Guess that idea will go out the window. Will have to get fresh organic veggies and try and make and freeze homemade, like grandma used to make. LOL

Duh???? Why in the world if the chickens and turkeys being grown here, would you send them to China to be processed. You know what shipping or even flying conditions will be like with thousands upon thousands of birds all together and at some point, lax sanitary procedures will come into play and than to ship that food all the way back across the country and you just know at some point, proper fridge temps are laxed.

One of the things that gets me and maybe I am just having a senior moment, and can't grasp this notion, but to me organic means organic all the way. Not just the way you raise your chickens, beef or pork, but what you feed them too.

Lately, I have seen folks selling so called organic meats, but when asked I find out that some of the feed they are giving them is GMO corns and other grains. Now to me that is not organic.

Friend just got a couple of new chickens to be egg layers and thought cool, when you have extra eggs, I'll buy some from you til I discovered that they feeding the chickens super food to make them grow big and produce faster. No thanks.

Heck, I haven't been able to buy any beef to eat from our corner grocery store as it is all from Mexico. Nothing against the country or people, but I want my food near by where if I want to I can go inspect the farm.

I am sure there are a few smaller companies that may be selling GMO seed without notifying folks that it is, but most of the reputable companies still report it is a GMO and make you sign a release.

I watched a woman go through the meat section of beef and finally decide on a package that said corn- feed beef. I thought to myself, dah.. most cows are corn feed and how do you know that your not eating GMO corn. Corn-feed does not = safe and organic.

I know the Amish folks mainly grow organic and have some beautiful fields and crops. I wonder if they are growing still heirloom and organic seed or have switched to GMO types.

What we need to do is buy a couple of pounds of corn from Joseph and put in a can and bury it and save it to have organic corn to raise for feed and eating for ourselves and families.

lol yep Star or if you have a pressure cooker you coul can the soup too. We are lucky enough to find grass fed beef at our Kroger and Tom thumb, I dont know if they are grass fed from start to finish but its the lesser of the evils I suppose. I am contemplating chickens and maybe bees, have to see what the laws and HOA assoc will allow. I am able to get range free eggs at a decent price but I love how they all say 100% vegetarian fed chickens. Do you know any vegetarian chickens? Blinking yea I wouldn't buy anything I knew was corn fed if I have a choice. I do believe the Amish do still use Heirloom seeds. I agree

Think I'm very lucky to live here on the country side. My neighbour is an 100% organic farmer and his meat cows are in the meadow from May until November, even give birth in the meadow. Another villager has organic eggs and lamb , another one organic milk straight from the cows and a friend in a nearby village has organic pigs, so I don't have to buy not organic meat so often.
I do not eat a lot of prepared food (except chips, I can live without chocolate, but not without chips Rolling on the floor laughing ) but if you read the content of f.e. chicken nuggets, you never want to eat them again . It's not so hard to make them. I usually make a big amount and put them in the freezer, so I can take them out when I want. And to be honest: they taste much better and are cheaper than the bought ones.

Big companies funding efforts to defeat measures to require GMO labeling are trying to keep their identities secret.

Ye, very good article. How true this part was "Therefore, food production will be based on producing enough food to produce the biggest profit margin; the purpose is not to feed as many people as possible."

I just signed this petition about GMO salmon -- join me?

Quoting:Dear Friend, Any day now, the FDA could approve the first GMO animal for food: the AquaBounty salmon. You’ll have no idea you’re buying this genetically modified fish, since labeling of these products are not required. We have to stop this. Will you join me on this petition? It only takes a moment: http://act.credoaction.com/sign/deadline_fda_salmon?sp_ref=2...
