soilsandup Darn that auto correct on my tablet! dahlia Jac's Janet please! Love what you teach and teach what you love! |

I got germination from some piggy dahlia seeds, but not others. I have the plants growing inside to build up tubers. They weren't big enough to lift. I have them growing in pots. Growing conditions were less than optimal since I was also packing and moving. I hae a couple of dahlias blooming inside now. |
|
|||
Love to see your inside bloomers! ![]() Love what you teach and teach what you love! |

the inside blooms are smaller than they would be in the garden, and I need to get a bit more light by a couple of plants. I'll try to get a picture of a couple. Bella the cat is a problem. She wants to sleep in my big flowerpots. I tried cinnamon on the soil, neems oil spray, today I put clear plastic moving tape sticky side up around the edge and criss crossing the top of my pots. Annoying. I am also looking for a more attractive shelf to set up as a light shelf for my seeds. I have black metal shelves, but they would look odd in the living room. It may have to suffice for this season unless I find something shortly. |

Same with me. Have had some seed germinate and some not from swap. Just depends on whether the seed is viable or not. A bunch of the tubers I am sending Joseph came from seed I germinated from piggy swap. Found they do a bit better with a soak in some water and hydrogen peroxide first. Seems to take dried Dahlia and Zinnia seeds a bit to rejuvenate themselves. Some plants will have seed pods and every seed will germinate, but some may make a ton of seed, but the seed does not grow all at the same time so certain parts of the pod are more fertile than others. If you take a pod open it up and look at the placement of the seeds inside, you can see which seeds were produced first and which gathered more nutrients. Boy oh Boy, just seen evening news and what a mess Tx is. Hoping our Tx piggies are ok. Unreal what this storm doing. |
