ArleneB, Thanks, but I am not all that clever. I learned that 'key word' trick from Plant Sister; she's the clever one!

I was researching Monks fruit at one point, and not much is out there... This is the two most useful blurbs I found:

Quote
From my research it appears that luo han guo is a tropical melon. The perennial vine is cultivated in Southern China in Guangxi Province, in the Guilin Mountains with steady warmth, high precipitation, and cloud cover. I doubt if it can be grown anywhere in North America other than in a green house.

If you purchase the melon in dehydrated form you might try sprouting the seeds in moist soil on a warm windowsill. I don't believe you'd be able to harvest anything from them if you tried growing them outdoors, but it appears little domestic research has been done, so you might have some luck. I'd recommend planting seedlings in well-drained humus-rich soil in a semi-shaded environment, covering them on evenings when the nights go below 50 F, and watering them heavily.

A place that sells the seeds with planting directions...

I remember finding a cool article somewhere about how a small Chinese town are growing them like gangbusters, increasing the money flow to that community substantially. I don't recall growing tips, but it was an interesting read.

AAAAAAND the box has landed, safe and sound.

Cannot open it yet, as I'm at work. Will have to wait for another 8 hours. Suspense is killing me!

Thanks Ella, for hosting this mayhem. It's never been a walk in the park, but this year seems to have been even more of a challenge than usual.
Therefore, I now officially crown you the Queen of All Piggies!
