I'll be starting some of my Asian brassicas in February inside for transplanting around St. Patrick's Day under a cold frame of PVC, wire, and heavy plastic anchored by bricks. I haven't figured out how to direct-sow them for early harvests because our ground doesn't truly thaw until April. A heavy tarp is placed over the bed and anchored by bricks to solarize the soil for several weeks.

I'm like that with wasps. I'm fairly sure I will die by driving over a cliff because there's a wasp in the car! Praying mantids, though, they're my favourite bug by far. I get super excited when I find them! Rolling on the floor laughing

Ella, I grew my Belle of Woking from a cutting, if you want to try rooting it next summer. I have to confess though, it is the only large flowered Clematis I have been successful growing from a cutting and I only got one plant from 3-4 attempts. I've tried a couple of others without success.
I tried a few different methods, but the one that took was in a block of saturated floral oasis in which I stuck several cuttings that had been dipped in Rootone.

Poison... I am just going to come and dig up your whole arbor and the plant and have it transported to here. No wait gonna have you do the digging up of it. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

If the seeds, don't work, I sure will be begging for a cutting.

You know it is funny how some things that are hard to root, I too have found only like to be started in a oasis cube. I don't know if it some sort of chemical property of it that is released when kept moist or what.

Ruellia's benefit from it, don't know about Ruellia elegans yet, Thunbergia's, but I know the other ones do. Chrysanthemums do, Tropical Hibiscus that I can think of right off my head.

Seems like I always forget about that method until I have run out of options and/or cuttings. Going to have to try and keep it fresh in my mind next time I do cuttings and do some using it at same time I try other methods.

You know, I wonder how it would work for roses? I have a friend that has this beautiful David Austin pretty pink cottage rose, them nice big fluffy ones and it is not only fragrant but a non stop bloomer. It will bloom even during winter if it not too too bitter cold. She offers cuttings all the time, and I try, she's tried and neither one of us has been successful. Hummmmm gonna have to get some more cuttings and try this. I know we haven't done it yet.

Annoyed piggy here! An ebay seller is using one of my photos to sell seeds again. I know this one is posted here in Ella's A to Z database and may also be on Daves or ATP. I suppose I should not get too worked up, but almost every time I decide to look at seeds or plants on Ebay I find my pictures being used and usually to represent the wrong plant, which is what get's my goat. This seller has several photos purporting to be the seeds they have for sale and I bet not one of them is of plants grown from the seeds they are selling. Borrowing the photo is not the issue so much as misrepresenting what they are selling is.

Alana,

Grrrr, that's annoying! Be sure to report them to ebay and they'll make them remove it. I also found a seller on Amazon using the same image:

I planted a hardy kiwi from a cutting about 8 years ago. It is in a bad spot I admit. It hasn't fruited yet, but at least if flowered last summer.

Poison I am so sorry this has happened to you. I try and look through ebay and places evry so often to try and catch such things, but have been busy with piggies and no time to cruise other sites. I hope it won't stop you from adding your pics to A to Z. I do so enjoy drooling. Sticking tongue out

Posion and Danita. Thanks for letting me know about the photo being used. Photo's in the database are copywrite protected. Dave just had to go after one that was using Patti's pics from out of her databases. he gave her the runaround til Dave stepped in.

Folks whenever you see things like that, please inform me or one of the admins so we can take care of it. We don't play around like that. Let me go to the links and get the info and get it reported to Dave. May take him a day or two to pop in, but we will work to get them removed nicely or not so nicely. Whistling Hilarious!

Also in meantime, Posion contact the sellers on ebay and amazon, and tell them that these photo's have been copywrite infringed. Tell them to remove the photo's themselves or you will be reporting them to ebay and amazon.

Send them link to database front page and post this from front page:

All photographs posted on this database are copyrighted. Copying or duplication in any form is prohibited without prior written consent.

Also tell them that photos' not only are copywrite infringed, but also misrepresented and you want them removed. Tell them if the photo's are not removed that more severe action will be taken.

Check that sellers store. I see two different names, but may be same person in case there are more of your pics whoever it is is using.

Makes me mad as blazes, Grumbling cuz all anybody has to do is contact any of you for usage of pics. Heck even I ask permission from ya all when using a pic for something inside here at cubits.

Especially now when it is the start of seed selling, folks think they can just take pics from anyplace and use.

Posion. After you have contacted the sellers, let me know their response and we'll keep an eye out to make sure pics get removed.

I wanted to post a negative feedback for the sellers who stole your pictures, but you need a login for that. Maybe the piggies who have a login can post negative feedback, like 'this seller has stolen the picture of my friend '

This seller, and I think they are one in the same from both sites, has a lot of photo's that I wonder if they have permission for. Not too many if any I imagine. I recognize so many from the original sites and owners.

Just went through ebay pics and think that all from A to Z database.

Jonna... For places like that negative feedback, unless things have changed can only be about the product itself. Pictures have to go through the customer site and official complaints filed.

My computer is barely hanging on and sure now that end of piggy swap don't want more problems, but send a link of the picture.

Also once it loaded into the Plants A to Z database than it becomes copywrited. Than I can do something about it.

I take so many plants from databases on and off and research them and check many sites to make sure I don't see anybody here's photo's. Once piggies are done and safe at new homes I will again.

I just seen on the Amazon site pic for Eyeball, toothache plant. Now I know that pic came from another place, cuz when trying to look up some names on piggy seed packets as to what they were I had seen it in my search.

It not hard to ask somebody. Don't cost nothing to do it. Most folks will say yes, if you ask nicely and tell what for. If they say no well, ya just find somebody to ask til you do get a yes or go without.

I contacted both sellers, which I am sure are the same entity, late last night. No result yet, but I will wait until tonight to follow up with Ebay and Amazon if the photo is still there, allowing them 24 hours to make the change.
You are right Star, if they had asked, and especially if they were using it to sell seeds for the same variety the photo represents, I would not mind at all. Nor would I have minded in any case if they had copied it for non-commercial use.

Thank you Jonna! I appreciate the thought. With Ebay, you must make a purchase to leave feedback and this is not the kind of seller that most of us would purchase from. I think all of us here are well past the point where we would think we could buy seeds from a true blue rose Big Grin .

Let me know what happens Poison. I have sent notice of it to Dave too for help. Patti's person was not so nice. Thankfully Dave looks out for his people.

Oh, here ya go, gonna post here and on Companion Planting thread.

Poison... If you don't already have, here a link from Dave. You being the owner of the pic have to file the first claims.

Ok, who is freezing? Everybody still staying warm? Woke up to 12F this morning. Feed the birds and poor things were looking for water and everything is frozen solid. Even if I were to put out a pan of water it will freeze in minutes. Just don't know what to do for them.

I just looked at 10 day forecast. Going to get even uglier. Gas prices on the rise too. Read this morning on a post where propane is starting to get scarce in some states. Not good. Back down to single digits in a couple of days.

Normally my Daffodils and Narcissis and a few other early spring bulbs and flowers are sprouted and starting to bloom. Anybody know at what temp bulbs totally freeze and croak?

I can't believe it. Just went into back bathroom and had thought about turning pipe off for awhile where they been dripping. Not now. In all my life never seen water at a small rate of drizzle freeze up and form an ice sculpture. Glad I checked cuz it was almost to the top of the sink bowl than I would have mess on the floor too.

Heck it warmer in Oregon that it is here now. LOL Misti pass some of that warm weather around. No fair being a piggy. Rolling on the floor laughing Heck I'd even split the difference with ya.

Instead of folks going around asking buddy can ya spare a dime, it hey can ya spare some heat and sunshine. High winds the other day ripped underpinning off again. Went back out re feed the birds and tried to brace it up for now with some boards.

Joseph... Maybe you can find an old like what they used to call tea cart to help you start some trays on. One of those indoor/outdoor shop lights up above puts out warmth and light. would only take two of them over each end of tray. you could brace up in the air I have seen folks put on top of bricks to support it.

I want to start sowing sooooooo bad. I got the itch big time. I worry about losing power, which has been happening quite a bit here. Than I would lose everything and I hate to cry. Makes my nose run. Hilarious!

What a beautiful picture Mindy. I love to look at pics of snow. So peaceful, so quiet, so serine looking. Especially ones where nobody has tromped yet. I just don't like being it. Though if your warmer than me, put the coffee pot on, I'll be there by daybreak. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Have you tried layering clematis or roses? As I understand, you lay a stalk/cane along the ground and use a rock or something to hold it in place. It forms roots. A couple of clematis and one rose (Baby Blanket) rooted that way on their own in my garden. Once I get things planted, I will try to root some things on purpose this way.

I love Austin roses, Hope you eventually get your cutting to root!
