Birdies are back on the porch eaves! (Never thought I would say hurray to that!) Another one came in to save the other two before it was all said and done!

I love seeing the seedlings popping up. I haven't had scabies in awhile but I sure do like them! The bees love them too; actually so do the butterflies and hummingbirds.
Very nice, Joseph. Does that have two sliding doors? You work fast! Did you do that all by yourself? My husband and I did ours and we had to have help.

It has one sliding door, and one door that would slide if it had been assembled properly. I think I figured out the nature of the adjustment that it needs, but i worked on other things today.
A friend donated 5 hours of labor to the project, and I put 17 hours into it over 2 days, so it took 22 hours to erect it. I've still got to attach it more firmly to the soil, and add some more bracing to help it withstand the snow and wind. Then I get to wonder about things like a workbench, or supplemental heat (last time I used a hurricane lamp), and some thermal mass. Somewhere around here I have auto-openers for the windows.
Mine was barely finished and I had it full of seedlings! But we put ours up in. Feb. last year. I never did do benches, just some plastic shelves. Maybe some day...
Quite a few people have chimed in about strengthening the HF greenhouse; lots of good information.

Been up in WI about a week now... we are just starting a chilly rainy week -- though I head home on Tuesday... it's Wedding Week. My hostas are barely emerging. I've had seasons where first week of May they are all unfurled, with the exception of the late arrivals. -- think all i have is day lilies about 2" up... that's it. It's been so cold and miserable up here.

When I was a kid my friend brought a praying mantis egg case into her room in a glass jar to watch it hatch. Yep, it hatched all right. About 1,000 praying mantis babies all over her room. Dig I mention she forgot to put a lid on the jar?
Back in a former life when I lived in Connecticut, I asked my neighbors to snap off the branch and bring the egg cases to me. I would use twist ties to attach the branch to various plants in my garden. Some people are squeamish and don't like 'bugs' of any kind; it's best to humor them and give them a way to eliminate the 'bugs' from their yard.
For anyone who does not have the pleasure of these beneficial cuties in their garden, here is a link showing their 'defensive posture' - so cute and a little bit frightening at the same time.
Morning folks. Some wicked and rough weather over the weekend. Hope everybody doing ok and more of it coming for the next few days. Several folks in the tornado storm lines. I hope and pray that ya all stay safe and that your newly planted babies and such make it through ok.
It's not supposed to hit here until later this evening and storms for the next three or four days. During the worst part I'll be off line as I know a bunch of you probably will be too, but please after it passes your way, check in so I know your ok. After the bad storms I hate seeing the news and all the destruction and I always pray that it not one of you all.
Praying Mantis are so cute. As a kid, we had one that hung around the front door ina flower bed. We used to put tiny pieces of raw hamburge out for it since there wasn't many bugs. With all the gunk in hamburger now a days I wouldn't do it, but back than it was like having it for a pet.
Greene I bet your friend had a wild time trying to scoop them all up.
I'm so happy. Finally found a bloom in the yard. Have one old yellow Iris that blooming. Still no daffodils or anything else. I think I had more stuff get stunted or croaked from cold and rains than what I thought. If things don't start popping soon I figure they gone.

Yes everyone please stay safe! i have been harvesting a few Strawberries the last couple days. I also harvested 2 huge bowls of Kale last night, along with some spinach, a few sugar snap peas and a plastic grocery bag full of Collard Greens. I made some Collards and Ham Hocks. The Ham Hocks were so fatty I had to add some ham in from Easter. LOL
