Hey Molly it's good to have you back again. Read over the rules. Most things are the same, but a few things have changed. Mainly the number of Oinks per day. It's 8 now a day. That way folks who working, or limited computer time or skills or time zones can get a chance at some stuff they really want to grow and oink for. New clean freshly refurbished stalls this year so head over to the 2014 databases and grab ya a stall and get comfy. Glad your feeling better. Lots of us with ya on the plant loss. Some of us got hit too. But things will get better for all us I fully believe. We gardeners, we play in the dirt, good years and bad. ![]() Blue... Your so right. That Peach Drift Rose is so beautiful and I love it too pieces. Not sure my pics of it came out or not. Will have to check. You know me and a camera. I try, but am so bad at it. ![]() I love the idea of the Blue Lobelia to go with it. That would look so pretty together. ![]() Folks, my mouse has been acting stupid. I think I need to get some of these cats all around here to maybe scare it straight. ![]() I need to change theParticipant's List on the main database page. Thankful somebody caught it and told me. It goes to Barbara00's seed list. Opps. Sorry about that. ![]() |

Would like to join in..thanks! |

Hi PinkIris and welcome to this years piggy seed swap. ![]() ![]() Up in the rules, you will find links to the databases and directions on how to get set-up. If you have any problems holler out. Big thing is make sure you get your screen name in and hit Save Changes, that way you can come back and find and edit you easily and we can help you if you get stuck with the rest. Hope ya have mud proof boots. ![]() Only about 7 more days to go til the barn doors swing wide open. Oh the anticipation. ![]() I am adding Mollymistsmith and Pinkiris to the participants list. Oh and if you see a piggy running around by the name of Carlos direct him to here. Knowing him he may dig under the fence and show up on any of the threads. ![]() |
|
|||
If complications don't prevent me, I'm planning on being a returning piggy. ![]() I hope I can figure out why my dsl connection is on the fritz by then. "Hello" to all the piggies! ![]() |

hey danita!! so good to see you. I'll be hitting you up for seeds for sure. I sent you a note on DG i think a while back about an agastache I got from you.... germinated them, planted in WI, did great, got crushed by a pine tree in a storm -- then when i moved to FL, i brought it with me... it's still blooming. ~~ I have the name of it somewhere.... Terese -- Leesburg, FL & Lake Delton, Wi My Email is my userID at hotmail.com |

Danita.... Is your server out of Ga? Lately I have been having a lot of problems myself. I don't know if this is true or not, but I was told that those of us with older Windows programs will have trouble accessing some sites and functions since Windows support was cancelled back in April . I have dial up and I am constantly being reset or throwed off line, told the server or cubit is too busy to try again. Sometimes it can take an hour or so to get back online. ![]() Also go out side and look at your phone line from the outside box to where it goes into your house. I have to check mine all the time as the squirrels will crawl down the pole and sharpen their teeth on the wire and I have to put electrical tape over it. Hope you get it figured out soon. Computer problems are no fun. ![]() IMPORTANT FOR ALL PIGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm posting this now and will be reposting it on Saturday evening for those folks who only are able to get online once a week and may miss this. It's almost time for the Piggy Swap to Start and the barn doors to open. Next Monday night, Nov 10th at 10PM EST the Official Oinking Thread.... The Starting LIne will open. Here is where that thread is. http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view/80060/ Make sure you click WATCH THIS THREAD to have it show up on your home page. You may even want to bookmark it up in the History on your computer so you have it handy. Until you make your first post on the thread it won't show up at the bottom of the home page telling you new posts have been made. I have dial up and ATT so I get throwed off line a lot, so it will probably be Patti1957 or Tcs1366 that will unlock the thread for posting. It takes a minute or two to get the thread unlocked , so have patience. If it doesn't open at exactly 10PM EST, just hit your refresh button or click on the thread again. Just be careful you all don't stumble out over each other when the doors do open. I know that a bunch of you will be there ready to dash out as soon as they are. I would hate to see Patti or Tcs or myself for that matter squished into the mud, covered in tiny hoof prints. ![]() Remember only 8 Oinks ( packets of seed) per day. Once you have picked your 8 choices for the day, you'll have to just chew on your hoof nails til the next day. ![]() For Newbies, to help you keep from getting stampeded, for the first day or two it might help you to just go to the Oinking thread. Click either JUMP TO THE END, or the last number you see and scroll down to type in your request. It is going to be a madhouse of piggies all posting like crazy and all posting at once. It's been a long year and folks are hungry to get to the feed troughs. The doors may open at 10PM but by the time you get your first post up, we may already be on page 6 or so. Don't worry about what has been posted in front of you. 1. Just make your post asking for your seed. You can ask for all your 8 oinks from folks all at once or spread out during the course of the day. Whether you use just one oink or all 8 oinks at once, Remember only put four (4) requests in one post. Hit send and than re-post the rest of your Oinks for that day if your using them. 2. As soon as you have posted your Oinks, go to your cmail area , link up at top of the page, look to the right side of your cmail and click SEND A CMAIL. Type in the persons name you want to send the cmail too. You'll see where as you type below some names in blue show up, you can click the correct name there also. You can also get everybody's cmail addresses from off of their databases. In the cmail, so folks can see it right off, you may want to type Piggy Swap for a title. Copy and paste, or retype the requested seed and hit send. This is your confirmation. If the seed is available folks will send you a cmail back telling you it is or not. 3. Answer your cmails asking for confirmation of seed as soon as possible. 4. Than you might want go to back over the threads and read all the oinks and double check that you haven't missed an oink from somebody. 5. Update your databases. Delete or put an OUT or a line threw seeds you are out of. 6. Update your INCOMING and OUTGOING section on your databases. At the end of the swap, folks and myself will be using those incoming and outgoing sections for help in packing. 7. Once all your oinking is done for the day, your confirmations sent, confirmation requests to you answered, threads checked, databases sections updated than you can browse back threw the databases and hunt for your next round of 8 OInks. ![]() Most folks you will see, will put a date or a line or something to let you when they have added new things to their lists. If anybody needs help or doesn't understand the above, don't be afraid to ask for help now or at any time. FOLKS>>>> We have some folks whose first language is not English. They have to try and read the databases, figure out the seed, convert it to their language and than post in English. So have lots of patience with them. Understand that their posts and cmails may read a bit different than most folks. If you need help[ figuring a request out, just copy and paste cmail to me or Patti and we'll help you figure it out. Have lots of patience with the newbies. Until they get the hang of things, they are going to make mistakes. Some folks don't want to let inexperienced people into a swap, but I am not that way. I believe everybody deserves a chance to join in and to learn. Newbies, don't worry about making mistakes. Most of you will, don't panic, don't worry, if you do we'll let you know and guide you in the right way. ![]() ![]() At anytime there is a problem, cmail me, or Patti or Tcs1366 if she's around. If it happens that all three of us admids are not around, Wildflowers has volunteered to help and she will be in charge if anybody has problems. We'll let you know if that happens. ![]() Just everybody play nice and work well together. Common courtesy goes along way. ![]() As new folks join in we will let you know on the Oinking thread. Once the swap opens, important messages will always be bolded on the Oink thread and also on the current CHAT THREAD in the Cottage Garden Forum. For those new folks that don't have strong computer skills, you might want to now before the swap starts, get a piece of paper, or a word doc if you know how, and list all the seeds your offering on your database. Than you can have a list handy next to you where you can write in folks name and keep track of how many packets of seed you have left easily until you get your database updated. Just always make sure you hit SAVE CHANGES anytime you do anything in your database. I can't stress this point enough. ![]() Anybody wanting to do a practice Oink or a practice cmail confirmation, you're welcome to try. Just let me or Patti . I'll set up a separate practice thread only for those folks to practice on. One last thing. For those in different time zones, check the time of my posts and your computer clocks. That will help you figure out if your ahead or behind me for when the barn doors open. ******** To those folks hanging on the wallpaper or waiting to see how the swap works. Remember you can join in at anytime during the swap between now and the last day of the swap. Just come here , sign up, so I know you're here and than get your database up so you can start oinking. ![]() ****** And the countdown begins.... Snort... Snort... Snuffle.. Snuffle. I smell food in the air. ![]() |

Ella, I need to get straight on one of the changes this year... I read that you want Tuink's oinks listed in our wishlist area -is this to happen before or after we oink her seeds on the thread? Or, do you not want us to squeal for her seeds on the request thread at all? I originally thought the only change was to add that list to our wishlist area, but now I'm second-guessing that, and I'm no longer sure. |

Question please. I know that we have 8 oinks per day and only 4 oinks in each post. I got that part. But is there a limit as to how many oinks we can make for one person in each post? I thought there was a rule about that but I can't find it. Thanks. |
|
|||
greene, I found this about your question ~ Quoted from the rules: "Once the doors open, you post the name of the person you are requesting seed from. Remember no more than 8 Oinks a day. You may request those 8 Oinks from 1 to 8 people, but please only post 4 names per post and bold the first name. Bolding is done by typing [ b] ( with no spaces) first, than their name and please use screen names as we several folks with same first names to avoid confusion, than type [/ b] (again with no spaces) than type your seed request. Here is a perfect example: " http://cubits.org/ellasgarden/thread/view_post/1016896/ Shine Your Light |

Bluespiral, Thanks for all the ideas. I already have 15 drift roses in all the different colors. Now I will need a super large pot, soil, and other plants to go along. It should be very pretty. :) |

Molly - Since you already have drift roses, would you consider trying different ones? Much of my garden is shaded, deer sometimes get in, and I don't spray. So a few of the Earthkind roses (Sally Holmes, Seafoam), and some David Austin roses (Heritage), polyantha 'Clothilde Soupert, and a rambler 'Felicite Feligonde' flower nicely in June and thereafter they sulk. But in case you might like to try a regular size rose in its own pot, underplanted with Lychnis coronaria alba (nice with a white rose) or Viola odorata or Nepeta musinii or carnations or other dianthus species or sages etc. instead, these might take some adversity. Since you are in zone 8, I strongly recommend growing at least one tea or noisette rose. They don't winter over too well up here, but where you are, their above-average disease resistance, tolerance of partial shade and fragrance, along with embodying what, to me, is the essence of a rose at its most beautiful, makes them first choice. They can get large, so just one in a pot,perhaps near something to climb upon. I grow far-from-perfect roses that mostly sulk 11 months of the year, so I'm no expert. But in my earlier post, a garden of miniature roses, which are hybrid tea roses in miniature with the classic form not seen in drift roses, would still be something I would try - may 6 or 12 to a large pot (does anyone know if fairy garden suppliers make tiny pools or fountains to put at the center like something like this?). Or maybe not - as a class, they are not known to do well without spraying. But having said that, in recent years I have read that growers are breeding for higher disease resistance in these fancier types. There are many sources of roses worth checking out, but the one I have used for its low prices and emphasis on disease resistance is Chamblees - http://www.chambleeroses.com/index.php . They are mostly out of stock right now, but their list could give you a good idea of the different kinds of roses out there. Their only tea rose at this time, by the way, is an Earthkind rose. When I bought Gruss an Aachen from them, they sent pots with a few rooted cuttings in each for $8.95 a pot. They took off very well in my garden, being planted in May. About the blue cascading lobelia, it might be glorious under Crepuscle, but where I am it burns up in summer. Another blue, cascading-over-the-edge-of-the-pot that flourishes in summer heat is the morning glory, Ipomoea sabatius (aka I. mauritanicus) (spelling is probably wrong). Evolvulus is great as an underplanting on a pot's edge, also thriving on summer heat. Apologies for tmi - wishing you many happy hours experimenting :) My religion is simple. My religion is kindness. Chelle You can put her list up on your WishList section before or during the swap. It doesn't matter, which ever is easier for you. I just wouldn't wait to long to have your list ready for her or even part of it too long, just in case she has to close early and your not around. Yes, everything you Oink from Tuink you Will post first on the Oink thread than send your cmail to her. For others, especially newbies reading this, make sure you send a cmail to Tuink for confirmation. She can't always get to the threads. Sometimes she may not even be able to send back a confirmation, but she always will post that confirmation on her OUT GOING section, so if you don't get a cmail confirmation back from her, check her Out Going first. Than if you don't get a cmail back from her, or see your request on her OUT GOING section say after 3 days, than with her second a nice second cmail to her with your request. Just say something like: " Hi Tuink! Just double checking to see if you got my cmail requesting these seeds. And relist the seeds. Thank you! " Does that help Chelle? If Tuink has to close early, there too many piggies to try and track down and wait for them to get there list together. Last year folks some folks waited too long and I had to ask her to hold up for them and that was during her regular scheduled time. I am not going to ask her this year to do that. Things are very tight for her this year. She may make it to her regular scheduled ending time she has and she may not. We just don't know, but if she says hey I closing in two hours for example, everybody who hasn't posted their list to her on the oinking thread than Patii and I can just copy from your Wish Lists and send it to her. ![]() And remember everybody... Tuink may not be able to post on the Oinking thread, but if she sends you a cmail, PLEASE fill it. Thanks for getting that link to Greene, for me Wild. ![]() |

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!!!!! RisingCreek has injured hoofs this year. She is hardly able to type, but yet doesn't want to miss out on sharing her seed or Oinking for seed and missing the fun. She hasn't found a good voice recognition unit that would type good for her yet. We take care of our piggies here. To help her out and enable her to play. She's sending all her seed to me. I'll be sorting, packaging and listing it up in stages on her database. When you Oink from her.... PLEASE...PLEASE... 1. Put RisingCreek, her name on the Oink thread. 2. Make sure you send the cmail confirmation to me. I have already put my cmail addy in her database, so you might want to make a note somewhere to holler at me , not her. 3. When you send the cmail for a request from her. PLEASE.... try to remember to put From Rising in the cmail somewhere, so I'm not running like a wild hog trying to figure out if it from my list or hers you want. ![]() She will be Oinking for her own seed requests on the thread and sending her confirmations to you for that seed. That's the plan at the moment. If we find that even confirmations is too hard and painful, than we'll do all her confirmations on the threads, so I can update her incoming database. For now we'll just do #'1, #2, and # 3 above. I'll let you know if there are any changes. ![]() |

Starlight1153 ~ can I tell you again how THOUGHTFUL/KIND you are to us. Its so nice of you to help RisingCreek and many others. Just wanted to SHOUT OUT 2 U for being such a wonderful person!!! Have a great day everyone!! Bluee19 (Nicole) |

You are such a nice person Ella. I made a post on the other link about software. I asked a computer friend for advice. One has a 30 day free trial. I haven't tried voice recognition software, but lots of people use it on their phones these days. A computer store geek may have some suggestions. |
