Ella, I have slow dial-up too and like you have been experiencing slow-downs, interruptions and just plain 'pooter balking at connecting to net. Sometimes cursor refuses to budge. Happens here most often when there's bad weather, even when the storm is down in Georgia.

So, in case anyone doesn't know this solution to some of the above, let me advise using th Text feature. Instead of keying your thoughts onto a web page where it says, "Post a reply", type onto a text page, which can be accessed by going into a folder, right-clicking and then selecting "text" from the menu that drops down.

This text feature eliminates any formatting or related glitches. When you're done, cut and paste that to the web page in the "Post a reply" box.

You will be less likely to lose what you write, and not have to wait eternities for the cursor to move when your internet connection slows down. And if it goes pouf, well then you saved it on that text document when you wrote it, right?

Ella & all other piggies with slow computer issues, have you noticed that your puter REALLY slows down when you go to All Things Plants lately? I have. So, yesterday I ended up over there (from a link to look at a plant) and my computer froze, like it has been doing! I looked down at the 'status' and it showed 'waiting for Facebook, pictures, etc...'!! I thought what in the world, why is it saying waiting on Facebook?! Grumbling

After the computer finally closed and I was able to re-boot, I went to All Things Plants and deleated that link! On my computer, it's off to the left side of the screen (link to Facebook) and has an option to 'deleat this' (or something like that).

My computer is working better since! I think that may have been what was slowing it down? It's worth a try. Thumbs up

Wild... Yep I have, somebody should let Dave know. I'd mention it to him, but don't have time to wait 3 hours for stuff to load and than freeze again. I went to try and look at a plant too and had this big screen of something cover over the top of ATP forums. Like one of them survey things. When I tried to close it , it wouldn't close. Waited and waited for it to load and it froze me up. Had to reboot and that takes me forever. Good detective work though. Big Grin

Wild and Ella, I just visited atp, and there was a box involving facebook that asked me if I would like to remove it, which I did. Another box appeared saying "Facebook widgets have been removed for you sitewide.", which after reading your posts just now pleases me very much, since I don't do facebook. Have you two seen this? Will it improve things for you?

Ella or Patti, I just posted links on seed viability in the Seed Germination forum - if it is agreeable to you, could you make it a sticky?

JonnaSudenius' website now has a table of seed viability on one page, and I think her knowledge and experience (along with the others) that went into that far exceed what is based on.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Hi Teresa -- I'm glad you made it over here!

As another newbie to the swap, I found it helpful to look at how other people have their database set up. After you click on the database link and choose Piggy Swap 2014, scroll down a little ways until you see this:

» Add a new entry to this database
» Bulk upload images to the database
» Browse all the entries
» Advanced Search

click on "browse all the entries" and then you can look at all the databases -- try looking at Chelle's for starters, since she knows what she's doing! After you get a general idea of what you need to fill in, then go back at click on "add a new entry to this database" and you can set up your own and fill in your information. And be sure to click on "save your changes" at the bottom before you exit out ! If you run into any problems, don't be afraid to ask for help -- there are lots of people here that have done a lot of the swaps, or you can contact the admins. Smiling

I'm glad Bluespiral nudged me... coulda sworn I just posted to this thread, but *poof* it went!

I'll be in & out a lot, so I'll try to post on the swap thread when I put things on my DB "haves" list. Sometimes I get distracted between posting an oink and following up with a Dmail, so I appreciate the patience of our piggies!

Looks like we've got a big group in the barn this year... a big Welcome to the new piggies, both familiar and unfamiliar "faces," and hugs to all!

I'm not nearly ready for this swap - but I'm really looking forward to it. I love to see all the new piggies in the barn. We may need to put up some more fence to expand the hog lot a bit! There will be lots of muddy little piggy faces once this gets started! Hurray! Hurray!
