I did some research. An American company (Proctor & Gamble) has a patent on the process of extracting the sweetener from the fruit; they want to use the sweetener in high-end diet food and see it as a multi-million dollar profit. The company is paying small farmers to grow this in China. The plants require hand-pollination, very labor intensive. Soft drink manufacturers are also in on this; what's the newest Coke product gonna be named?

There are many links with information; this is only one of the links. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/22/us-usa-monkfruit-s...

In the US there are very few places where it would grow (if we could get the seeds or cuttings).

Okay, now I want to grow some!
