When I lived 'back home' I noticed the city sprayed for mosquitoes only in certain neighborhoods. So I inquired. The man explained that in order to spray, I would need the signature of each person in the defined area. We were having a problem with Salt Marsh mosquitoes and they were biting people 24/7 - poor children were standing at the school bus stop in the morning with blood running from the bites. Disgusting.

So, for the first time in my life I got involved and knocked on 99 doors to get 98 signatures. In the one house that did not sign, the man of the house said he was an entomologist and did not want the spray in his yard - no problem; he was to place a white flag so they would not spray on his property.

His wife grabbed the clipboard out of my hand and said, "Well, he may be a big shot entomologist, but the house is in my name. I AM signing!"

(Don't worry, the stuff only affected the Salt Marsh mosquitoes.)
