I found a small/medium snake a few days ago, curled up between fence slats lying on the ground that I was standing up vertically to lean against the other fence. It slithered away and I was ALMOST brave enough to pick it up and relocate it nearer the center of the yard in another good hiding place.

And MONDAY, I found a skinny but looooong snake skin under some flats of potted plants I hadn't moved since June or so. Could have been the same snake, I dunno. NEXT time I will be braver. I didn't grow up here and though I've looked up local snakes and I BELIEVE there are no poisonous ones I'm likely to find in my yard, there's still that "are you SURE?" question in my head....
