Weedwacker, you can try going to "control panel" then to "devices and printers". Right click and uninstall any scanners installed. Shut down and restart your computer. Maybe it will find the new software.

If it still doesn't work, find the scanner in control panel/devices again. Right click on properties. Check the driver. Click check for new driver . Check first online at Microsoft. If it doesn't find anything, make the driver window search the driver you just downloaded. You will probably have to shut down and restart.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the entire scanner/printer. Go to control panel again. Make sure everything is uninstalled - scanner, printer, fax. Then shut down and restart twice.

Did you upgrade Windows? Some older scanners and printers that were supported in Windows xp aren't supported in Windows 7 and Windows 8. They may work with one of the "generic" drivers. You can google "your device name" "windows whatever" driver. My workhorse Hp scanner and Laserprinter aren't supported by Windows 7 and beyond. I am setting up a Linux internet machine. Since they are still supported by Linux, I will connect them to that machine. I have "newer" replacements, but they are slower and more fussy than my old reliable ones. The toner is more expensive for the new printer also.

Be careful downloading drivers or driver software from anywhere other your manufacturer or Microsoft. there are lots of fake "driver fixing" software that installs spam and/or the wrong drivers and/or a list of drivers that you have to pay some disreputable company to "fix". Been there, done that, had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows to get rid of the junky software.

Once you get everything working backup your windows installation to a memory stick or free online "cloud" like Dropbox. Also, "save" your windows setup with the date. If you lose your scanner again, you can revert windows to the "last known good configuration".

I have better luck with computers than seeds lately. That is sad because I am not naturally a techie.
