Revisiting the subject of pansies from seed -

Last year, out of probably 10 varieties sown, I had only one batch grow. They were the ones I started late, out on the porch. Not one of my indoor containers ever produced anything. I'd rather get an earlier start with these (indoors), but my failure rate is so high that I need ideas for a solution.

Do any of you start these inside, or do you just wait to sow outdoors?

I don't seem to have any trouble with standard violas, just the fancy hybrid pansies...if that makes any sense at all?
