I like to pre-soak watermelon and okra. They are hot-loving crops that really benefit from the extra warmth in my cold climate. I put them in the germination chamber for about 18 hours soaking in 90 degree F water. Gets them off to a great start. Then I might plant them directly into the field, or into pots for transplanting soon after they emerge. If grown in pots they remain at 90F for a couple of days until they have sprouted then a couple days in the greenhouse to acclimatize to the sunlight. In my short-season it adds a couple of week's worth or earliness.
