This might be the most ridiculous nonsensical ideas to appear on this thread, but old garden books talk about digging a pit, putting fresh steaming manure in the bottom, and then putting well-sieved compost on top and then a cold frame over the whole business to germinate seeds in early spring before frosts have ended.

Sooooo - has anyone thought of trying the top of their enclosed kitty-litter box? One would need a supernaturally well-behaved cat for this to work.
