Poor Grandma! I almost did the same thing. I picked up the stunned bird to figure out what to do with it and it "came to" in my hand and after perching for a second or two, flew off. I had to move my feeders too far away to enjoy from indoors to prevent more carnage.
One spring I had some large mirrors to dispose of and I placed them in the garden, just for fun. A wren of some kind fell in love with it's own image, thinking it had discovered a mate. It preened in front of the mirror, tried to touch it's image with it's beak, sang and trilled and brought itself juicy insects; putting on a ground display that was remarkable to watch. After a few days of enjoying the display, I removed the mirrors. I was afraid the bird would wear itself out and never find a real partner. Hilarious!
