I just found and bought some high quality 2"x2" copper birdhouse portal protectors from leevalley.com (Lee Valley & Veritas woodworking tools); they didn't cost very much; they're made in the USA, and they came in various sized openings with rust-resistant zinc-plated mounting screws included. |Wonderful, thank you for the information. In the past, I have included metal sheet metal sandwiched in between pieces of wood for the entrance hole. Since I use baffles now, I am not as concerned about squirrel chewing, but they can help to limit predation and damage by other birds. These sound much easier to use then drilling through sheet metal, as well.
