Hi! I just found and bought some high quality 2"x2" copper birdhouse portal protectors from leevalley.com (Lee Valley & Veritas woodworking tools); they didn't cost very much; they're made in the USA, and they came in various sized openings with rust-resistant zinc-plated mounting screws included. Wonderful, thank you for the information. In the past, I have included metal sheet metal sandwiched in between pieces of wood for the entrance hole. Since I use baffles now, I am not as concerned about squirrel chewing, but they can help to limit predation and damage by other birds.
