Can you believe how hot it is today? 86F! (That is not normal. It should be more like 65F.)

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy all of your walks and drives. I look forward to walking in your footsteps and seeing all of the interesting things that you post at your site, here and at The Gathering Place for us to enjoy. Keep up the good work. Enjoy those summer clothes. I look forward to putting on shorts again and not being bundled up all the time. Did I say that my least enjoyed season of the year is winter? Sad

I can understand that. When I lived in PA, I didn't like winter, either. Out here, summer is my least favorite season.

These flowers are Ceanothus megacarpus. They are all over the place (where the habitat is right).

Thanks for the video. There is nothing like taking a pleasant drive after dinner in the evenings. I loved the bluegrass accompaniment. Ahhhh! Life is good.

Near the end of the video there was a hill to the left of the screen that looked to be terraced? And what were all the cars doing on the right hand side of the road near the end of the video? Very pretty country. I'd like to order some of your weather, please. :)

Cheryl, I'd gladly give you 15 degrees. It's too early to be this hot.

The hill on the left is a vineyard. The place on the right I think is Rancho Calimigos. People can rent it for parties and weddings and such. Since today is a gov't holiday, a lot of people have it off.

This is the closest thing I have at this time. This is a little drive through farm country. The plants where the white plastic is layed down are strawberries. Most of the trees are oranges except the ones by the redlight are avocados. The orange things are pumpkins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLsm8Ctkmok

What a delightful after dinner drive complete with some great bluegrass music.. I can't believe you didn't meet a single oncoming car the whole time. Thanks for posting this.

There would be a little more traffic on a weekend, but still, not a whole lot. There are a couple popular trailheads, but otherwise, there are few houses and it is a roundabout way to get to the beach.

Here are pictures I think you'll like from the trail we went on. It was so clear that it looks like a person could just about swim out to the islands, but they are 20-some miles offshore.

What are the bushes covered with white flowers?

Back home strawberries are planted on black plastic. I have never seen the white plastic.

The bushes are Ceanothus megacarpus.

Maybe, but I'm just guessing, white plastic, as opposed to black, keeps the soil from getting too hot. That video was taken in September or October, when it is still hot here.

Really strange thing has happened at our house tonight. We went to some friend's house because they wanted DH to officiate over renewing their wedding vows. We had a nice time and stayed a couple of hours. When we got home around 10 I came in the front door and went into my bedroom. My BC was asleep by the bed as usual. Then I saw something run past the door to the office. My BC caught sight of it and went to investigate, as did I. It was a brown puppy! Looks like a Brussels Griffon. Likely a cross of a small breed with a rough coat and a boxer. It has a protruding lower jaw and a rough coat. It is a male that looks to be around 3 months old and very skinny. Somebody had to walk up to my house, open the front door and put the puppy inside my house. Nothing was bothered. We had valuables , computers, guitars, a gun, DH's meds, ect. sitting out but nothing had been touched. Just this puppy in the house. I half expect it to be a joke that we will hear about tomorrow. Anyway, the pup is in the bathroom with my BC and they are sleeping. We tried to put him in the utility room but it has no door between it and the kitchen. We blocked it off with a piece of steel grating about 3 1/2 feet tall but he climbs it. If it is not a joke and somebody has put it off on us, we will have to find it a home. Like I don't have enough to do. It is a strange thing. I will not leave my door unlocked again.

Next time you might find a baby on your doorstep. Crying That used to happen to people in the old days. I suspect someone thought that you wouldn't let anything happen to the puppy and they probably couldn't afford to feed it. Now that times are getting harder vets are finding dogs tied outside their offices in the mornings, etc. If folks can barely afford to eat at all themselves they surely can't feed an extra dog. I hope you can find a home for it. Sounds like it is accustomed to being in the house which is good. Good luck!

Boy, I didn't know anyone ever left their home unlocked any longer. If we ever did that, we would probably be wiped out!!!! I can remember the days when almost nobody ever locked their homes. We had some doors with screen door hooks but not anything that would actually keep anyone out if they wanted in. Times have changed for sure and not for the better in most cases.

We have always felt fine about leaving it unlocked because the dogs were here but I see now my aged BC can no longer be a good watch dog. His hearing and eyesight are bad. Won't be leaving him with the job any longer. We were blessed the pup did not destroy the house before we got home.

Most pups would have done just that. That is why I figure it was a dog that had lived in the house. Yep, you were quite fortunate.
