We go out there or through there once in a great while. The first time, I was surprised to see how much cotton they grow in that area. Not just how much, but that they grow any at all.

All the cotton fields in Chandler are long gone :(

Where is Chandler in relation to Phoenix proper?

Elena, here's something different for you. It's jerky and the close-ups are no good, but you get to hear me talk.

What a delight. I have had my exercise for the day walking that trail. That was fun! I am so glad to finally hear you talk. I felt like I was walking the beautiful trail with a friend.

That was very interesting. I was familiar with some of the names of things from reading westerns set in that general area but I had pictured the plants and trees to look much different. Interesting to see what they really looked like.

How on earth do you remember all the names? I tip my hat to you.

I don't know how, I just do. Not only do I remember the names, I remember where stuff grows from year to year, like where to go - often within a few yards - to find such-and-such a plant. It astounds DH. It's just a skill I seem to have been born with, something God gave me for some reason. I call it my hunter/gatherer mentality. They would have to remember from year to year where to find things and I think I would have been a good hunter/gather, at least the gatherer part. It's not that I have a super memory for everything, but for this I do.

You should work as a nature trail guide in the parks.

Actually, I have done that. I used to be a volunteer at Malibu Creek State Park, back before we had the house and when my health was more consistent.

Thank you, but probably not. My voice doesn't carry very well. I usually gave hikes on geology, since I was the only volunteer that knew much about it. We had many people who knew plants and birds.

It sounds like a fun job. I'd like to have the job of camping in state and national parks and writing about it.

Have you ever found out where the puppy came from? That sounds like someone you know knows someone who needed to get rid of a puppy & wanted to place it in a good home.

No, we have never found out. It is a mystery. He is working out well and I guess he has found a home.

Those 2 boys will probably be more than glad to have him staying, Cheryl. Terriers and children seem to go together well. Both have unending amounts of energy. Just watch carefully until you know for certain he knows poultry are off limits on threat of terrible punishment. Terriers are also well know for killing chickens, ducks, geese, etc. until they are well(read severely)punished several times to make sure they truely do understand. Some never do understand.

I overdid today so tomorrow will be a lazy day in bed with the heatpad or water bottle and radio tuned to a Christian radio station.

We are due for more snow tomorrow. Not as much as last time tho.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

I called my pastor and his wife Tues. morning & asked if they could come get me and take me to town. I was getting rather depressed from being home so long and having not been shopping for myself since 12/2/2010. So I got to go to WM & the thrift store which was wonderful. Got a bill paid that needs to be done in person at this time.

My helper didn't get here yesterday. It was still snowing where she lives and we were concerned about her being able to get home if she came. It had stopped snowing here long before she called me. Hopefully she will get here tomorrow.

I have the name and phone # of a man who use to raise geese and other poultry & sell them. I think I'll call him and see if I can get on his list of buyers. I only want 1 female female gosling. If it has no other poultry for companionship it will bond with me very closely. Or so is the plan. I really enjoy having a goose following me around the yarden while I work. I like a tom turkey too but they seem to get to large for their hips and feet to handle in just a few years. And Moses peacock seemed to veiw the last as a rival and made his life miserable unless I was out there to keep them apart. We had to have Thomas put to sleep when he was only about 5 years old. A goose can live much longer than that.

The snow is still white and glistening on the open fields. When it all melts there will be ankle top deep mud. Finally the green of spring will begin to peek thru.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Justmelisa over at Dave's Garden has a pet goose. She was captured by gardenwife on Youtube video talking to her goose and the goose was responding so sweetly. I posted the link over at "The Gathering Place" in the Pets and Animals forum a long time back. You will probably be able to find it there. If you are unable to find it, I will look for it sometime this coming weekend.

I'm not at all surprised that Lisa has a pet goose who talks to her. Or that she would show it to the whole world. Lisa loves animals so much. I remember when they moved from LA to KY and what a shock it was to them and the critters because they got there in late fall I think and it was already getting chilly. I know a lot of improvements in living conditions for everyone were made the first year. I don't know if she left DG completely or if she has her own cubit or what.
