Thanks for stopping by, Trish...I am on my laptop (75th BD gift) so don't have access to my gourd pictures...tomorrow is my Gourd Group meeting and I will take my camera.
Do you have a woodburner? Lots of nice art work with those. Jo
Here is a gourd one of my friends brought to me today...
I am in charge of the Fellowship table at Church Sunday...not only is it Valentine;s day...but it is our Western Sunday too...So I wanted to decorate the table with the Cowboy Poetry days theme "Cowboys and Sweethearts....She made me a gourd with a cowboy and a cowgirl burned in the gourd,,,then cut out hearts and covered the cut outs with stained glass...a little battery candle goes inside...

I paint birdhouse gourds and like to paint them with flowers like sunflowers and bees or pansies, or roses. This gourd I've added butterflies on it. This is a gift for a friend.

I love the flowers and colors...just one comment...isn't the hole a little big for a bird? I'll have to find that sheet that tells what size holes should be for different birds...
One year I saw a bigger bird go into a House Wrens nest and destroy her eggs...mean old bird!!

The hole is 2 inches, which works fine for the birds around here. For the smaller birds I do smaller holes. Some times I also put a perch on the front of the gourd for the birds to sit on.

My 2 story bird house never got a tenant last year,,,then a man told me to put a wee drop of vanilla on a cotton ball inside...I'll try that this year.. jo
Lots of good idea's Jo. I've seen some hung like Chili Ristras in long reams. I guess they have to be kind of in the medium to small size, but they look great with some twine string and raffia as the leaves. Just make sure they are sealed and hung where the rain doesn't hit them and they will last for a very long time (Many years) you may have to reseal them every year to have them keep their sheen.
If you have never been "into" gourds here is the place to learn how to grow, harvest, clean, and decorate this wonderful and interesting vegetable of the Squash family. Just come on in and visit with us and share knowledge!!
