I love all the pictures of the gourds. I need to get busy on the ones I have. It is not like I dont have plenty of time now that I dont have another patient to care for at the time.
Jo I reconize the kitchen. I remember it from when you took me to your friends to buy some gourds when I was out there visiting you. I really would like to grow more gourds but my DH doesnt want them growing all over the yard. I need to build a teepee like she had in her yard so they can grow up the teepee.
when I asked the artist how they did the wonderful coloration on their gourds... of course I got the "guarded Secret" answer!! Not even a hint!!! Well I thought at first airbrush too~! Nope.......... I got home and looked at those photos I took and it came to me....as I dyed Easter eggs.... FOOD COLORING..... Yep , simply wet the gourds then drip food colors diluted with heated vinegar ! Just like drip dying Easter Eggs! Here are a couple of my first tries. afterward seal them with spray polymer or beeswax.

Am I glad I left my check book home!"...he said the magic word...WE TAKE CREDIT CARDS...so I now have one...They were $149.95 at that time...the last time I checked they were about $179.95. I love mine.

I have a cool spring Idea for gourds.
Cut a few holes large enough to stuff string , hair, and pieces of colorful yarn into the gourd . Hang it and watch the birds gather nesting material.
The colored yarn (cut to 6'' or so) is especially nice in the winter , you can spot your nest materials in the trees.
Thanks for the inspirations, everyone. This is something I have hopes to get into but am just taking baby steps. I have a Dremel and woodburning tool and am now drying the bottle gourds I grew last year for the first time.
