Hi Jo, Yes the Apple Gourd is one of my favorites. I think though that it might be , because it still seems to be one of the hardest for me to grow. I can get them to the size you see in the photo and then they all seem to just wilt out on me!! Im determined to get them to do this year!
My signature came about one day when my daughter tried to get into my craft room. She complained that there had to be a path in there somewhere , and I said "Well, I know where everything is but it could use a good sweeping!" Hee hee!
My path is never blocked, it just needs sweeping!

Oh, those chicken parts and chicken are awesome!!!!

Joyce, that green birdhouse gourd is beautiful!

Just how far apart do different types of gourds need to be planted? I don't have a lot of room and I tend to go whole hog when I do something, so I'm libel to plant no less than 5 kinds...all together lol maybe I should plan on not saving the seeds...or giving them to the birds?

Unless you're going for True Seeds you can plant as many as you have space for...if they cross pollinate you sometimes can get somew interesting shaped gourds.

Some will needto grow on a trellis...and some do better on the ground. Long handled dippers should be trellised...as should all the Bottle-type (that is what a Birdhouse gourd is). Jo

Hi everyone, thanks AZReno,
If you are NOT going to save seeds for any of the ones you grow, you can basically grow one of each kind and not keep them apart. BUT, if you want to keep the seed pure, I would only grow one or two types and each one at the end of the yard opposite of each other. This year I only grew one ( the large African Gourd seeds from Jo) and one volunteer mini-gourd plant came up from old seeds from 2007 in the front yard.

I really wanted to get these bigger ones for their seeds and now that they are drying, I feel that I can grow some different ones this year, I'm hoping to find seeds for the EXTRA long handle dipper gourd, those seeds keep evading me.

Thanks Jo, I've ordered some almost every year and I keep getting everything BUT the Extra Long Handled seeds.

I'm going to have to get the other cubit organized and put some more information in there this weekend, the cubits will be opened up to the public on Monday... not that anyone will look at mine, but they might..lol

I have to learn how to put links in here, there is one called Gourd TV that is free and has lots of "how to's"..

Is there a tutorial for that anywhere?

Jo, there is one that is 6 ft long... that is the one that keeps evading me... I keep trying though. Even if we got a 3 footer, that would be great too, that's pretty long to me.

I'd love some, those are perfect to put between two boards and let them grow flat, like a small guitar... you can make one or a ukalalie (I know I spelled that wrong), I accidently grew a watermelon that way, it grew between two rocks last year and it was really neat, it was flat on both sides.
