I would like to hear from the members about having another gourd contest.

When would you like to start it?
What about a theme?
Should the winner get a blue ribbon? How about a best of Show? Or, should the winner get a gift certificate and if so for how much?

Your input is needed and also if you are interested in being a contestant.

Blessings

I would be happy to see another contest anytime!

I already won the last one so I will watch this one. Spring is just around the corner and then we have planting and I get very hyper and exited about the garden. I was even thinking of a biggest gourd contest for fall. Wouldn`t that be interesting? My giant gourd I grew this year was ok but I want to try again and improve. I think I`ll start my seeds early for that too.

Maybe we could have 2 categories....largest gourd decorated and best birdhouse gourd.

And fall would give everyone time to find and choose their specific gourd....Just a thought...

Hi there new owner! No ideas floating around in my head, I became interested in decorated gourds when my sister started her new hobby. I'm going to try growing them, and if I succeed I will let her be the one who decorates them.

When I became interested in gourds and saw how my sister decorated them, I was sure I couldn't do it either, but once she started showing me the easy ideas, I took off and have been decorating them right along with her ever since.

Do try it, I think you will be surprised just how talented you are. My first ones where not fancy but now I can do flowers and scenes.

In any even do drop in and let us know how things are. And if your sister takes any pictures and sends them to you, please share them...we do enjoy OOOOing and AHHHing others talents.

I usually use my dremel with a cutting disc and the smooth out the hole with a sanding tube. However, I am thinking of purchasing a Proxxon Mini Super Jig saw SS 115/E from http://www.welburngourdfarm.com/ or their Power Gourd Saw.
it will make the cutting a bit easier.

Also am considering on getting the Gourd Master Easy Cleaning Balls for them as well.

I know I've been gone for a bit, okay, a very long bit. Still working on at home projects, the studio is complete and we made a courtyard, now we are working on getting gravel pathways, still a lot of work to be done.

I just wanted to say that maybe we could have a photo contest also, maybe something like a companion growing with gourds, etc. or just a photo contest for decorated gourds, etc.. I haven't done any at all, but wanted to give some input. Although I have one growing and don't know for sure what it is, it was supposed to be a long necked bottle gourd and it looks like a speckled swan gourd...um.. I keep striking out when it comes to getting the Extra Long Handled gourd seeds.

Lavonne, I really love your header up there, very gourdy and very fall looking.. just perfect when you think about gourds being harvested...

Gourd:

It is good to see you post. You have been sorely missed. Sounds like you have been extremely busy getting your personal adjenda in order. I hope you will drop in once in awhile to chat with us.

I think a gourd contest would be good. Perhaps there are enough who planted gourds this year who can take pictures and post them in the contest, also they may have decorated some that dried during the winter and are ready for decorating....

What say you members? Shall we have a contest or two? One for pictures of your gourds growing and another of a gourd or two that you have decorated this year?

Let us know and we will put it together.

Interested in another gourd contest. I planted several seeds this year, but none of them made it in this heat. So I would like the decorated gourd.

I planted some gourds too, not doing too well. I've got to be doing something wrong, can't blame it on our weather because we really haven't been hot like the south.

Pegi give us some more information about your gourd growing problem and perhaps we might be able to give you some insight.
