Yesterday I decided to dig up one of the potato plants to see what, if anything, was going on down below; they have yet to flower. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover 7 nice potatoes on that one plant, one pretty good-sized one, 3 medium and 3 small. Cooked them with supper, along with the first of the green beans from the hoophouse -- what a treat! The beans were tender and sweet, an excellent variety even if they do grow a lot taller than I would have expected from "bush beans.". It took several pickings to get that one meal, but now the beans that I had to replant have caught up and it looks like we will be getting quite a few. The pole beans are just starting to flower, so it won't be long for them, either.
