The new one will be much more sturdy! We have an arbor now, but one we bought and it is failing so Steve has started one similar but will have the cross flat pieces over the top no longer arched. Here is the old one photo taken years ago before the gardens matured.

oh sounds like your new one is similar to one DH did last year. We looked at the local nurseries/hardware stores and they all had rickety arbors. I am growing wisteria on this and knew it would have to be super sturdy. He made the base with 4 x 4's Big Grin I dont think this is going anywhere for a long long time Hilarious!

That looks a lot sturdier than what Steve and I are making, but then I won't have my wisteria on it. Looks great and will like you say be there for years to come.
My wisteria split and I had to fix it myself, said it could not be done, but I used a vice clamp and duct tape and voila it worked and I read that the trauma helped so each season I beat it with my rubber hammer!

trauma helps huh? hmmm... LOL I think my hens digging in that area is enough trauma for mine LOL! We started 6 more wisteria from seeds 2 yrs ago, They wont bloom for a few more years, but fun to watch them grow up! What do you use for the wisteria to grow on?

I am trying to train it into a tree so it doesn't have to climb, it does get out of hand and climb into our pines if I am not watching!

Just came over to check out the Adirondack Chair. It is really nice and I love the arbors. My DH Ric is quite a builder. and we have a huge arbor planned for our Wisteria. Hopefully we will tackle it next month. I will probably have to do some serious pruning to the Wisteria to get it up on the Arbor as it sprawls.

I trained my wisteria into a tree and so it is free standing. Would love to have your woodworking crafts on the site if you are so inclined. Steve is working on a new arbor for me this year, it is partially complete.
Can't wait to see yours.

Here are a few pics of the Arbor that RIc built me years ago for the Trumpet Vine. It is a pretty basic design but I love it. Here it is all dressed up.

Now that is gorgeous!!!!! Can't even tell there is an arbor and you have made me a fan of trumpet vine, well almost. I have been trying to kill my for 2 seasons, it took over my rose bush and then started sprouting up in every area of my garden, it broke the lattice work it was trailing and so I cut it off and have been spraying with RU trying to eridacate it as it just became way too invasive. But your's is beautiful. How do you keep it from growin up in your yard there, we have to mow it down in a lot of spots and in the flower beds it comes up everywhere and wraps around everything. I truly rue the day I planted it!

And a more naked view. It adds a lot of winter interest.

It does pop up here and there but I keep after it. I think it is worth the effort but I do warn people that it takes some looking after. It's one of those plants that needs the right place. I like the way the branches have twisted around the arbor over the years.

Here is a spring pic were you can see the structure a bit more. You can see another of our projects in the background. I designed it and the Lamppost was built by my son and the trellises were built by Ric.

And a kitty! That is gorgeous. That looks like something from a magazine that made me just dream of having wisteria. That is one strong arbor to withstand that growth, he is quite the master carpenter. Lovely!

Thanks Candee, We have a bigger one planned for the Driveway. Something like 14ft X 14ft and about 7/8ft high. Hoping to get started on that in the next week. The Kitty is Bubbles and you will find her in a lot of my pictures. She would follow you around the garden and quite often needed pushed out of the way when you were weeding. She was an old cat about 16yr but in very good shape. Unfortunately she disappeared last summer she is much missed.

Thank you it is hard to lose a loved pet.

Yes, I have an old Wisteria that should have gone up on something a very long time ago.

Almost finished just needs one more coat of waterproofing. I love it and it is set in stone and concrete and is really strong.
