I wish I could find this pattern again, made this about 40 years ago and it is a one piece pattern, all connected while doing the stitch (not panels) as you would expect, but have never seen it again and lost the book in a flood a long time ago.

This one was called the Heirloom Collection - I made it cause I just love the ripples for the edge.

This is not one of my favorites but was different to make. The popcorn stitch makes a nice design and something a bit out of the ordinary, which is what I like!

This is an afghan that was made out of squares sent by different people. It folds into a pillow.

Those are wonderful, where in the world did you come up with a pattern for Sponge Bob, that is really unique! And I never heard of a pillow afghan that is interesting. Now where do your squares come from, friends, family or do you have some club?
You design? That is a real talent on that horse how were you able to do that, did you draw the photo and then count stitches? Enormous endeavor! Hurray!

Spongebob - My grandson had a picture and I took and drew it freehand onto graph paper and Voila. The horse the same thing. And yes then I painstakingly counted every square and every color change. But it was fun.

I used to belong to a yahoo group called "Caring Crocheters." We did crochet for charities. We also would send each other squares to see what one could come up with.

Thanks.

Now did you count as you went along? What am I missing you counted in the number of stitches to the color change? What a job that must have been! Hurray!

Yes. What I would do is draw the pattern on graph paper and then translate it into a written pattern. I would then have to count every stitch and keep the yarn from being so tangled. It is really fun though.

How in the world do you translate it into a pattern.

Example: 25 blue, 15 yellow, 25 blue

Of course you have to remember the turning and go forwards and then backwards. If not you will have to undo once you catch your mistake. I have done this. Rolling on the floor laughing

Better you than me, I have all I can do to follow the patterns I purchase let alone trying to make my own. I tip my hat to you.

That is great fun. We have 2 that we made, but they are nothing compared to the elaborate ones I see at craft shows! Can't wait to see more. BTW did you start crocheting as an infant lol, you have made so many in so little time!
