Thank you so much Coralee and Carol!!
Coralee, I don't remember what I paid for it, but I got it from Joni....I have to check the exact month: late December or early January. I just checked, it's Hoya elliptica (clone A).
Carol, why did it die? what happened, do you know?
It's still small....but it has 1 bloom and 1 peduncle that is budding up.

I may be able to grow it now...but I remember the roots rotted..this was about 6 years ago. I know a bit more now and have better potting soil. Even David Liddle admitted it was a tricky one ... Joni must have good stock, this is important! I would try again if I didn't have so many irons in so many fires!!!!! Love the looks of it... you have a gift, Olesya - you grow them well!
Hoya plicata. I love the spidery flowers on this one.....
Olesya, you take beautiful pictures and Carol is right the you have a gift that these yough hoyas grow well for you. While I pactise my hoya growing skills, I would love to be able to take pictures like you do. May I please ask what camera you use and if there are any special lenses or settings to use. I know nothing sbout cameras and their language but my husband can help me understand.
Carol your plicata is beautiful. You should try elliptica in those growstones and may be some under the same tree where your kerrii was blooming. I love the corona on elliptica.
Hi Alka....I hope you feel better now!!
My camera....I was going to buy a new camera and didn't know which one...but then, my Godmother (who is into photography) sent me hers (she lives in Wilmington, NC). (I guess, in a good way, she wanted me to understand that cameras are not magical and I need to practice to take good pictures).
So, the camera is Olympus SP-570UZ. I just put it on "super macro" and take pictures. The thing that she taught me...it's all about the lighting. If you move your camera around the bloom, you will see the color picture changes on the screen. At least, that's how I do it.
I take a lot of pictures and then pick out the good ones.
Thank you!!!

H. wightii ssp. sikkimensis....
This hoya became extinct and was recently reintroduced into the wild in the mountains of Sikkim in N. India. I grow this outdoors, in the lowlight under a tree and it does well, considering I am in Hawaii. It blooms a couple of times a year. Fragrance is of lilacs!!!
This is one I call 'it'...because IT is really rather ugly but unique...shows the great diversity in this species....
I've lost the IML# on this...it's a 12?? but the name on it was sp. aff. pubifera. The scent of butter and honey is so strong.....

It's actually a Eriostemma (if you accept that they are separate from Hoya - which I really don't)...and is a cultivar called Isabella (sister to Monette and Margaret). Almost impossible to grow indoors...OH...you can grow them, but they seldom flower, if ever. One of the parents is lauterbachii...
. I have lost the IML# on this...it faded. The name is sp. aff. (faded name too.) I haven't had time to look thru my papers and find the name....but the fragrance of butter/honey is wonderful!!!!!

They have a different way of growing...and are considered Terrestial whereas hoyas are considered epiphytic. I think there are some very minor differences in the sexual parts...but not clear about that. Eriostemmas essentially root in the ground...find a tree to climb and wind their way up the trunk (rooting intermiately but not like hoyas that root along every node and the stem) and then when they reach some height they are happy with, they hang towards the earth and at this time start blooming (on the vine hanging down). Once that vine reaches the earth, it roots and then wiggles along the ground looking for another tree, They want FULL sun, they need support and hate being moved...that's why they seldom bloom (in captivity)...flowers are normally very large.
Hope this helps. I grow them here...but they grow up trees and I have had to tear them out of trees or the trees would break from their weight!!!!!
