I would appreciate any advice and suggestions on growing Hoya Samoensis.
Also, is Hoya Samoensis and Hoya Neoebudica kind of the same plant?
Thank you!!!
Hi Olesya!! Ha! Hoya samoensis can be a right little *!*!*!. From my experience it needs very warm, humid and even moisture. I grow mine in a self watering pot in open compost 25 - 30 degrees and 60% humidity at least.
I'm sure others will pitch in with their experiences. It's not an easy one, thats for sure.
Have a look on Dougs website...he says he waters his sparingly....
Neoebudica is not the same
I have neoebudica.....do not know if it is same as samoensis. Mine has shiny, light green leaves.
I keep my plant outside, hanging in the tree just like others. It does not like too much sun. Gets watered whenever it rains here . If no rain, I water it with a hose once a week .
Name: Carol Noel Hawaii (near Hilo) It's all about choices.
I don't find these hard to grow...but then our climate is not to different than Samoa - tho' I live at a high elevation - with warm humidish days, cooler nights. It's a nice hoya. No...they are not the SAME hoya, but I do think they are different clones of the same species...from different islands but not separated by HUGE distances. I grew them both and chose to keep H. samoensis when I culled the collection.

I don't find them different at all, really. And it just happened that the neoebudica was growing out on a tree and left the area (haven't seen her in years) and H. samoensis bloomed a while ago and now I've lost it again. I just chose one over the other by chance...either one of them are particularly exciting IMHO....
