There have never before been so many lightnings in a volcanic plume as in the current eruption. 2198 lightnings were recorded in one hour today, while the maximum number of lightnings recorded in one hour in last years eruption was 22.

4 tourists are missing, they left Kirkjubæjarklaustur this morning and their whereabouts are unknown. It's not clear whether they traveled into the area that's been closed off or out of the ash-zone .....
