This is a forum to talk about hybridizing irises. We hopefully will have lots of people coming over from Dave's Garden that are very knowledgeable in this field, so any questions you have, ask. Or if you're a hybridizer, please talk about your accomplishments, and show us some pictures! Dee, Lucy, Anita, everyone else, c'mon!

Everyone is welcome to start threads on this forum.

Well this is one I will introduce in 2011, and I love it. Splashed Silk, been on the backburner for a while. Just think of Infernal Fire or Wizard of Odd but Border bearded height and NO TWO blooms are alike one can have more purple, one more burgundy, more yellow you name it.

Thank you Polly, have a BB or IB that is a totally black space age iris and its name is Black Bull.

Emerald Isle is one of the ones have been working on for a long time, and one of the grandsons' when little told the tags so it is unknown parentage but is getting closer to a green and not olive tone and going to cross with several turquoise ones

Will find the picture and what I want to cross with it later.

This is a new site for me so I will work slowly. I have some seedling pictures to bring up, but most are not yet in my computer--skills are not there either. Dee, I noted 249-08c & 242-09 as interesting SDBs. Last yr. I got a couple interesting pink SDB seedlings which have to be installed here. A couple seedlings seemed to be getting along well, then disappeared in the middle of the summer & I had crossed onto one of them, ulp. By fall, they returned (sticking out their tongue, I presume) so I will see what happens now.

I like the bright red violet color on 249-08c & the form of 242-09. sometimes the bees know things better than we do.

Lucy, thank you for your feedback.
I agree with you sometimes the bees do better at guessing than we do.
I hope your pink does well this year.

I have posted this BB L96-SB (Ringbearer x Chanted) X (Soft Spoken x Mellow Fellow). The pod parent is pink & an IB which makes for difficult fertility there. The pollen parent is a yellow blend, strickly BB. As I remember this plant has no pollen so will have to cross onto it. It has been moved to an area where it might increase faster & I hope it blooms this yr so that I can get seeds from it. It has I.aphylla type branching & 6 buds. The later trait is good because parents have only 5 buds which is the standard for border irises. Hope for more well spaced flowers & don't like to see less than 5 buds.
