I'm Gordon. I've been growing iris for 14 years. I'm now hybridizing on a small scale. I have some of my iris planted at the site of the 2012 convention. I'm planning on going to the 2011 convention. I oved to AZ from CA amos 4 years ago when I went on disability with Parkinson's. My gardening keeps my sanity. I designed and built my gaden from scratch. You can view it on youtube. Just search for "Garden Tour 4-19-10"

Welcome, Gordon.

Dee and I are the owners of this cubit, and we can answer any questions you have.

We ask first that you read all the information in the green box. We're on to the 5th thread in the introductions, so I need to ask you to do the intro over again. Here's the thread we're working on now. Sorry to inconvenience you, but we want everyone to stay up to date with new people.

http://cubits.org/irisforum/thread/view/51068/#new_post

After you've read everything in the green box, jump right in and start talking to us.

If you look to the right of the cubit you'll see some things like databases, articles and pages, you might want to check out. Some interesting stuff there.

Welcome again, and we hope you like it here.

Hi! My name is Mary and I live in Alaska so my gardening problems are probably similar to ND, WI, MN or Canada. Hi Todd. I am trying to grow bearded iris but it is tough duty. This will be my fourth spring trying. Have lost so many to rot. I also got some ensata's last summer and according to Polly have planted them all wrong. so if they survive I will make a new bed that is more hospitable to their needs. My first love is peonies however. As far as I know I have the only ones here that stay in the ground and bloom (Japanese and Chinese Trees). When I am on my regular PC, where my garden database is I can post a few of my small successes with Iris. Hope springs eternal. And like Jon, half the fun is to push the zone. I have helleborus, another not to be seen (or at least I haven't heard of anyone here growing them.). Took three years to find just the right spot. Japanese ferns (Painted) still elude me.

Thanks to Polly for all her advice. I will give it my best.

Hi Mary, welcome!

What part of Alaska are you in, coastal or where it's really cold?

We're on Part 5 on intros, I'll copy your post over there, and would you mind coming there to talk to us, please. I know this cubit can get confusing. Believe me, it get's easier.
