Jon, you don't look that old. Yes, that was around the time I was working there. I think it was just before I got promoted, so around 1985. Then they switched my territory to Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis counties.

Thanks. I'm 46. So you got switched to "the North Country". Familiar with that area. My grandparents had a summer cottage, on the St Lawrence River, in Clayton, NY.

Clayton is beautiful. Back when I started up there they had feet and feet of snow, and when I retired, two years ago, it was down to inches a year. I think the lake effect shifted downwards.

Nice to talk to someone from the area.

I'm not even going to ask why you moved to Florida, that's pretty obvious.

LOL. What's wrong with 46. Most of the lake effect snow seems to be from Watertown south. We actually had snow flurries here, in the Ft Lauderdale area, on Jan 9. First time it had snowed since 1977. Then the weird thing happened. The leaves started changing colors. Fall foliage is not usually a Florida thing. Took this photo, at the neighborhood park one week later.

Moved here for the weather. I like winter, but not for 3-4 straight months.

Wow, Jon, I'm jealous of that leaf change! We had a cold snap when the leaves were still green, so I was hopeful. But the hard freezes lasted for two weeks and the leaves just went straight to dead, dead, dead. =(

Ahh come Jon, at least here in OR we do not get hardly any snow. This year to date no snow but had a back ice storm in Dec that our street (in the country) was totally black ice and several cars had to park down here to get off the road leaving the cars just before the riverbed road (floods easy and from my driveway it is hard to see the cars)

But right now I would take some sun, but it will come later this month.

Welcome Susie. Nice to have you here. The foliage change has been very neat. The temps hovered around 30-35 for 3 or 4 nights so it wasn't a hard freeze. It still did lots of damage to tropical type plants. Spent 2 hours getting every potted plant into the house or heated garage. Soaked all the plants in the ground which really helped. The only plants that dropped all/most of their foliage were the desert roses.

I would guess you must not be far from the Pacific Ocean Dee. That really protects you guys in Eastern Oregon/Washington/British Columbia from copious amounts of snow.

Hi Suzy, welcome! 13 flowerbeds is a lot. We can certainly talk about iris swaps on here. And iris anonymous is already an integral part of the forum, believe me.

Hi Joan, I know you! You're the one that grows bearded, sibs, and no Japanese Angry I'm happy you're part of the group too!

Susie, When I was reading this thread last night, it occurred to me that this thread was starting to sound very much like a virtual IAA meeting.

Stormy, I thought you knew that either Lucy or myself or Polly was the core of the IAA...LOL
I have been in internet business for 11 years now! I know Lucy has been growing alot longer than I have been business, but does it count that my mom and I did iris in CA as a kid and trust me am not a kid just short! Since I have no idea how to use the cuties next to this I just have to use other ways
Kathy trust me I do understand about a love hate with TB as in some areas with wind and such it is just easier to grow the little ones. I think I have about 300 varieties of the little ones now. I love them, but I love iris all kinds, heights, styles etc.
DeeJay if we do a PNW co op there are usually alot of little guys there.
Oh Lucy we know we could not live without the little ones could we, NAY.
You are right Polly 13 beds are enough, I know I have grown for the last time 3 acres at my age is alot!
