The irises cubit has a new database. It was developed as Dave will be doing a cubit wide database, and if someone searches for an iris, it will link them to our cubit. This will greatly contribute to the attractiveness of our cubit as far as the outside world goes.

The database is not meant to compete with AIS, DG Plant Files or TWiki, and who could ever do that anyway. It's meant to enhance our cubit only. Think of it like a pocket dictionary, as compared to the unabridged version. A really nice feature would be when we enter a picture in the forums to put it also in the database, so someone can find it later if needed, but please don't quit using the photo forum, duplication is great!

I would like anyone on here that wishes to do so to enter some irises in the database. Don't worry, you can't break anything we can't fix.

First of all you can't put duplicates in, unless you spell it differently somehow. The database will pick that up.

So to start go to databases on the right, and click on 'OUR IRIS DATABASE'

Here it is: http://cubits.org/irisforum/db/ouririsdatabase/

Now to add a new iris, click on 'Add a new entry to this database'

Next, fill in all the info you know about the iris. Don't worry if you don't know much about it. Even just the name filled in will be a help.

Then click on 'add the entry'.

Next click on 'Click here to view your new entry'

Then if you have a picture to add click on ' Add a photo to this entry' and it will lead you from there.

If you've ever added a picture at DG, this is just as easy, if not easier.

Thanks everyone. If any questions just ask. Comments about how well the database works would be appreciated.

Hope to see lots of info and pictures!

I just tried out the advanced search feature. I really, really like it.

For example, I wanted a white siberian. I put that in the advanced search, and it came up with the appropriate irises.

Please give it a try. Say you want an early tall bearded, blue and white. It brings up Rare Treat. When we get more in, there will be more choices, of course, but it's going to work great. Dave did such a good job on that feature.

Awesome! Two questions.

Can we add pictures to an entry someone else made, and is there a kb size limit on pictures like with the TWiki?

Short answer, yes, and no. LOL. The bigger pictures will show up larger when you click on them, though. Some I've had have been too large almost for the screen.
