I hope next year I will have more black blooms to show off... as previously stated, I have Superstition, Study In Black, Tuxedo, and Obsidian. This year I've acquired, Black Is Black, Raven Girl and Hello Darkness. Raven girl seem to show up more purple at the AIS convention this year. I should get 'Black Suited' if I can find room for it. Next year? |

I understood ID is not the purpose of the thread but who knows ? Gee, I just found this forum and have some to share. I have two that I don't think have been posted yet that are about the blackest I have seen. BLACK SUITED, by Innerst - This is the blackest one yet for me. ![]() Betty |
Closely followed by the border bearded CHIMNEY SOOT, by Vernon & Dana Brown, I believe.![]() Betty |
But my favorites seem to be some that are not quite pure black. CRIMSON LIGHTS, by Barbara Nicodemus ![]() Betty |
And here is another Barbara Nicodemus iris, a rebloomer, that is very very dark -- but not black. It is really pretty, though! OZARK REBOUNDER ![]() Betty |
And another - very ruffled and beautiful I think. MIDNIGHT COWBOY, by Bill Maryott ![]() Betty |

And a stalk shot of MIDNIGHT COWBOY:![]() Betty |

Hi everyone, Wow! Great to see so many 'black' irises on the same thread together with the name of the hybridizers. Thks. The only two of mine are TB of average size. What about yours ? Are some very tall? Is Betja a reliable rebloomer? Thks to everyone C. Come along and take a walk in a French garden~~Click here for Species Tulips and other bulbs. Yes, I am a reliable rebloomer! LOL! I am Betja, and OZARK REBOUNDER is the reblooming iris. But unfortunately it has not rebloomed for me yet. I do not think any of mine are very tall, but the border bearded CHIMNEY SOOT has a pretty large flower for its classification and is probably a taller plant than it should be, too. Betty |

Hi Betty Betja Thks for these information. In the meanwhile I thought that may be these irises were on the database but did not check. Some are putting stars to classify rebloomers : three stars for a very reliable one, two stars for occasionaly rebloomers and one for those reblooming only in a very good weather conditions. I think its not bad as far as when u are interested in these irises to cheerful your garden during autumn that helps u to do the good choice. C. Must get 'Black Suited' next yr. Irises hybridized by Sterling Innerst do well here. |

Yippy, I was gifted Black is Black and Black Suited from Naomi! D |

Crimson Lights is now on my list! And I normally go for the blacks that are towards the blue side. Wonderful pictures Betja! I love that picture of you in the irises! Unless you are really short, they are well grown and very tall! |

Thank you! That picture was taken at Keith Keppel's in May between rainstorms, and the mass of yellow over electric shock blue irises in front of me is a seedling I am hope hope hoping he will introduce next year. It's looking very good for 2011, and I for one certainly encouraged Keith to introduce it. It is really fantastic! (And I'm about 5'5" tall.) Betty |

Of course Keith Kepple would grow good healthy irises. I was thinking maybe that was your house. I love that yellow and blue one. |

I guess I have to ask if there is a problem with uploading pictures. I've been trying for several minutes (more than ten times) to get a picture of my front iris bed to upload, and I finally gave up. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me? I have a Mac, so maybe that's it... Betty |

I don't know enough about computers to tell you. Will try my picture (which I've posted before, but it's black).![]() Black Lightening a SDB from Chuck Chapman in Ontario, Canada. |
