I plant them one year and divide them the next. The SDBs, that is. I like the looks of more of the same kind, too, Mary.

being commercial I divide mine almost every year.

But before I became commercial I divided either every year or the next as I wanted more iris...

I divided them each year just to get a nice amount, then let them grow from there.

If there is an SDB you would like to see, I can go
on to the CD's I have or the database and see
if I have it to post for you.

Give me ideas of what you want to see
I am lucky I get to tour most of the commerical
growers up in the PNW 2 to 3 times a year
and do a ton of pictures.

got a question for all y'all SDB lovers.

we have a lot of shade here due to heavy forestation. a few miles away that is not the case. But in N. Raleigh, it's about like living in a National Forest.

Therefore, I have never cared for dull colored flowers. The brighter the better.

What is it in the genectics of the SDBs that causes so many dull colors? The more I see, the more I think "greyed out," "heathered", "dull." One or two will POP like I like to see. but the rest literally blend into what's at my feet.

I guess what I'm asking is, if I want to start collecting some, what is it I should try to avoid, or try to get?

definitely go for the brighter colors then. orange, bright yellow , fushia bi colors like variegata. Pure whites are harder to find. The newer plants have been crossed for brighter colors. Visit Snowpeak & Mid america websites & see for suggestion. I thought this year's Mid america had duller SDB colors than usual. 'Scream' is a real bright yellow. The variegatas can have duller tones, so look for brighter ones. Blue can be bright if you look for them.

Does he know which one? You certainly got enough cold (and snow) this yr to probably have a good display.

nope. he's not good with names. Has always claimed he can't recall the names of any women he dated. Not one. He was nearly 40 when we wed.

He never remembers plant names. then again, he has been known to turn to me and say, "what was you name again?"
