I'm Gordon. I've been growing iris for 14 years. I'm now hybridizing on a small scale. I have some of my iris planted at the site of the 2012 convention. I'm planning on going to the 2011 convention. I oved to AZ from CA amos 4 years ago when I went on disability with Parkinson's. My gardening keeps my sanity. I designed and built my gaden from scratch. You can view it on youtube. Just search for "Garden Tour 4-19-10"
Yes, once again, welcome! And if I get to the 2012 convention in Ontario, maybe I can meet you in person too. I'm planning to attend, at least at this point. And I believe Dee (Denise Stewart) will also have irises planted at the convention, so I hope both of you (and anyone else who will have irises there) can show us pictures ahead of time so we can look for them -- is that allowed? I don't know how the weather is in Vail these days, but I'm definitely seeing some new growth on my irises here! So spring is on its way -- YEA!!!
And here I'm totally drawn to bright yellow flowers in the garden! Thomas Johnson's BRIGHT SUNSHINY DAY and Keith Keppel's SUN SHINE IN were both had-to-have irises the minute I saw them! But I must say that OVERJOYED is also one of my very favorite irises, and it's really a soft buttery yellow and white. But I love the bright ones, and HOT PROPERTY is another that I am totally drawn to in the garden. Dee, your clear yellow and white flower with lots of ruffles is really beautiful -- and the red one is to die for! And are they both in Victoria as well as Ontario?
I have "Vance George" and "Spicy Mood"
at Ontario. Both were actually hybridized by Margie Valenzuela but I introduced and named them. I have one of my own hybrids in the blind seedling judging. If I showed it here, it might not be a blind judging.
So, I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself. I'm an iris grower from SE Michigan. It all started sometime 10+ years ago and has grown like wildfire from there. There are 800+ named varieties in my garden now, I'm a budding "backyard hybridizer", assistant editor for my AIS region's newsletter, 2011 Iris Club of Southeast Michigan show chair, and an avid photographer (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y11/eroctuse2/). I love and live for the natural world. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but it's a start.
I almost forgot to mention, I'm finally going to be an AIS judge this August!!

Yes, he is quite a photographer and then some. Welcome Brock about time you come on over to the dark side which is so much nicer than the DG has become...you will love it and more and more of our friends are now here.
Yipee! I am so glad you came over here. I know you will contribute greatly, and you are an awesome photographer too. Anyone that wants to see a lot of amazing pictures should check out Brock's photobucket albums, link is above. I am so glad that there are some younger people getting into hybridizing iris, because we really need them. Anyway, welcome Brock!
