Primula Juliae or Julianas are quite fascinating. Some of them are just beauties by their foliage, the buds are real jewels. One of my favorite is Juliana 'Fireflies'. Still in bud but just have a look at the foliage and buds. Very exciting juliana.

All the 'laced' primrose are beautiful. Some of them have very tiny flowers, short stem, some others one like the one below has taller stems.Very early in the season, this one is always flowering in February. This gold laced primrose is from a seedling. Background is red.

The foliage of this Primula Auricula is also most peculiar. Round, soft looking, One of the 'fancy' auriculas. Now in bud.

Lynn Lawson, from Barnhaven Primroses, one of the most beautiful website and the best primula providers here in France, has kindly accepted to participate to this thread when she will have some time, probably at the end of spring. I am sure she will forgive me to get her text to describe these fantastic rare plants from Victorian period that she call .

Enthusiast's Primroses

Quote 'Museum pieces. These curiosities were much sought after in the 17th and 18th centuries. Jack-in-the-green, a flower held in a ruff of leaves, Hose-in-hose, the calyx transformed into petals to give the impression of one flower inside another. Jackanapes, with a striped calyx, Gallygaskins, with a large ribbed calyx, and others. Barnhaven have been selling seeds of these wonders without a break for more than half a century! Colours include white, cream, mauve, violet, rose, coral, apricot, yellow, and many more. Unavoidably there will be a small and variable proportion of flowers with normal bloom.'unquote'

Hose-in-Hose Primula

You will notice that two flowers are one inside the other one. Pics cannot be great, neither flowers as it is raining, dark, and the birds keep eating the flowers and the buds.

Look at this! You can see the flower inside its green coat. Fascinating.

Primula Gold Laced 'Jack-in-the-Green'

The flowers of this 'silver laced' primula are smaller than the previous above and the stems are much more shorter. You will may be notice that some flowers have been eaten up by the birds. I have to explain to them that I will not be able to show you much if they go on.
